PREFACE. HIS little book is designed to be complete in itself, as a study of Character, with a view to the correction of vices and the cultivation of virtues. It may also be regarded as a sequel to another little book by the same writer, which has found favour with the Public under the title of Pastoral Counsels, The evangelical studies in the earlier volume, e.g. on Reconciliation to God in Christ; on The Way of Salvation; on What God requires of us; on Human weakness, the power of Grace, and Freewill; on The use of Means, &c., form a suitable introduction to the ethical studies in the present volume; while these studies on "Perfecting Holiness" are the fulfilment of a design hinted at in the conclusion of the former book 1. 1 Pastoral Counsels, p. 116.
