HANDSOME PRESENT
THE BIRD.

BOOK.

By JULES MICHELET, Author of "History of France," &c. This Beautiful Volume is Illustrated by Two HUNDRED AND TEN EXQUISITE ENGRAVINGS by GIACOMELLI, Doré's Collaborateur on his Celebrated Bible.

Imperial 8vo, handsomely bound in cloth and gold. Price 10s. 6d. Morocco extra, 20s.

This is emphatically the Gift-Book of the Season. The Illustrations are marvellous in their poetry of conception and beauty of execution. Of the letterpress, it is enough to say that it breathes a rare spirit of tender appreciation, and teaches us, for the first time, to regard the Bird as the Friend, Helper, and Servant of Man.

ELEGANT PRESENT.

THE LORD'S PRAYER.

An Illumination executed in the highest Style of the Art. Printed on Cardboard, 23 inches by 17 inches, with a White Margin of 2 inches, adding greatly to the general effect. Price 5s. The above Illumination is elaborately worked in gold and colours, printed on cardboard, 23 inches by 17 inches. The general design is that of the illumination of the latter portion of the fifteenth century -a period when Italian ornamentation attained its fullest development; the completeness of idea, both in arrangement and colouring, characteristic of that period, has been fully retained in this work. Every variety of detail has received proper treatment, and the finish so essential to every part has been successfully applied. By choosing the Italian style, the illuminator has produced a highlyfinished composition, free from the stiffness of strictly conventional foliage. It has a most elaborate border, effectively relieved by a centre ground in grey, with gold letters; the words “Our Father being very bold at the top, and the solid background of the design is strictly in accordance with the period chosen; while the brilliancy of colour is harmonised throughout.

BEING THE REFLECTIONS AND RECOLLECTIONS OF AMTAн) A MEMBER OF THE PROFESSION bacté

This is a manly, carnest book. The author describes in a series of essays the life and Work of a achedmaster; and as he has lived that life, and done that work from deliberate choice, his story is worth hearing Why does the writer of a book so honest and thoughtful as this about dominies come before the public and mously? Let us hope that a second edition will ere long be called for, and that thus an opportunity may afforded of correcting this mistake."-Spectator.
