Second Edition, revised throughout, TITI LUCRETI CARI DE RERUM NATURA LIBRI SEX. With a Translation and Notes. By H. A. J. Muxto, M.A., Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge. 2 vols., 8vo.
VOL. 1. Text, 168. VOL. 2. Translation, 6s. May be had separately.
But, if called upon to name any existing work as the best representative of the present state of English sebolarship, we believe that Oxford and Cambridge men would, without hesitation, put forward Mr. Munro's edition of Lattias This work, on its first appearance in the end of 1864, was received by the most competent critics as the Testest contritation to latin scholarship which our country has made in the present century. Its practical value to students and scholars may be inferred from the fact that although Lucretius has not hitherto been among the books batutually read in schools and universities, it has already reached a second edition.”-Fraser's Magazine. PLAUTUS. AULULARIA. With Notes, Critical and Exegetical, and an Introduction on Plautian
Pzundy. By Dr. WILLIAM WAGNER. 8vo, 98.
* Is 3 specimen of a thorough edition of a classical work, leaving nothing to be desired by the critical student. We cannot conceive a work better adapted than this to introduce the reader to a study of the Latin author, and the comie poets generally.”—Guardian.
** At all events Šert Wagner has gone to work in a way that leaves nothing for any future editor to do. ... The edition includes an exhaustive history of the text, a critical commentary, and what it seems the editor considers a brief, taut what we should call a voluminous treatise on the Plautian Prosody." --Spectator. TRANSLATIONS into ENGLISH and LATIN. By C. S. CALVERLEY, late Fellow of Christ's College.
Small &vo, 75. 60.
* These translations comprise much honest and very skilful work, and may be recommended, as few others can, to readers who would familiarise themselves not merely with the matter treated by the ancient poets, but with the enduring beants and interest of their styles of writing and thinking. The passages handled seem to be understood thoroughly and delicately, and the resources of the English language are brought to bear upon their import with surprising power.' -Pall Vall Gestue.
“He is scholarlike, accurate, suggestive, but, rarest gift of all, he is never dull. His versions of Virgil's Eclogues, and of the two first Books of the Iliad, are of quite remarkable excellence, so literal, yet so full of movement and individual character."-Guardian. VERSES and TRANSLATIONS. Third Edition, revised, fcap. 8vo, 5s.
* As a second volume of translations from the pen, and with the name, of Mr. Calverley has just appeared, there is Do longer any scret in the authorship of his most pleasant and scholarly volume of "Verses and Translations."Edinburgh Revicz, July, 1866. GRAMMAIRE DU PP.EMIER AGE
PREMIER AGE, avec EXERCICES
OUVRAGES CLASSIQUES .
A L'USAGE DES COLLEGES, des ÉCOLES NORMALES ET DES GENS DU MONDE,
et autorisé pour l'usage des Colléges. The special and undeniable excellence of M. Poitevin's method has gained for it the honourable sanction of the Council of Public Instruction which has placed the work amongst the number of those which it particularly recommends for the use of Colleges.
M. Poitevin, in his Grammaire, differs from his predecessors by relying rather upon the great writers, who are the only real legislators, than upon the rules laid down by other grammarians, many of which rules, like those of their English brethren, are obsolete.
The remarkable part of M. Poitevin's work, and which is to be found in no other, is the series of applications which enable the pupil to exercise his ingenuity and memory upon. The exercises always accompany the theory, and the student is thus left in no doubt as to the real meaning of the rules; the judgment and the memory being alike exercised.

The first volume of M. Nisard's interesting work contains an Introduction to the History of French Literature. The second volume brings the history from the Renaissance period down to the early part of the sixteenth century. The third treats of the great models of the art of writing in prose and verse, especially those whose writings exhibit the progress of thought and language, and of the influence exercised by the Court and by certain institutions upon the literature of the seventeenth century. The fourth and last volume embraces the whole of the eighteenth century, and furnishes a general estimate of the riches of our own time.
