THE

HE FALL of the CONFEDERACY. By JOHN BAKER HOPKINS. This essay is an investigation of the immediate causes of the non-success of the Confederacy. It purports to refute the theory that the Federals triumphed only and inevitably by the force of superior numbers; and whilst justice is thus rendered to the valour and patriotism of the Northern people, the honour, loyalty, and endurance of the Southern people is vindicated from the aspersions, expressed or implied, by those who laud the Confederate Administration as the incarnation of supreme wisdom. There is appended a chapter on "The Future of the Union," in which the author submits a hopeful view of the prospects of the United States, and

endeavours to show the groundlessness of the fears of those who suppose the present political excitement is likely to eventuate in anarchy and ruin. London: WILLIAM FREEMAN, 102, Fleet Street.
