" It is useless to enumerate the contents of the book. Our readers who are interested in these matters will see that it is well worth reading. It contains a great deal of curious and unusual information, brought together in a very pleasant and easy style." ---Guardian.

“We have dwelt on the first myth as being a very fair sample of Mr. Baring-Gould's book. The others are handled in a very similar way. The earliest mentions of each one are carefully chronicled ; and an attempt is made at last to discover the origin and signification. The latter part of the method adopted will, we hope, excite some general interat in the infant but vigorous science of Comparative Mythology."- (hronicle.

Notes on the Psalms

The Work will be completed in Three Vols., uniform with all the Editions of “ Barnes's Notes."

“ These Notes on the Book of Psalms will be printed in England by Mr. Edward Knight, who has printed my Notes on the New Testament in a manner entirely satisfactory to me, and to whom I am greatly indebted for the interest which he has taken in my writings. The work will be revised, and will pass through the press under the care of one to whom I am also greatly indebted for the manner in which several of my publications have been in late Ingram Cobbin, and the Rev. TIMES. The use of colours in books of this kind has never been so successfully attempted before, and if some of the pictures may be objected to on account of the brilliancy of the tints, the greater number of them will be pronounced almost faultless. The copying of the original drawings has been well executed, and altogether the book is a very attractive one.

PALL MALL GAZETTE.
One of the most admirable as well as most original contributions to the pictorial literature of the

We have reason to be thankful to Jessrs. Grillin for calling in the aid of Mr. Vincent Brooks, not only to give us a very handsome picture-book, but to improve an art which might be turned to valuable account. The fresh, brilliant, well-studied illustrations of this volume are a very agreeable change from the black and white of the woodcuts in ordinary use.

DAILY TELEGRAPH. The selections made in this instance are exceedingly judicious..... One of the nearest approaches to water-colour drawing that the new art, for which we trust greater things are in store, has yet produced for us.

LONDOY REVIEW. This is one of those elaborate Christmas volumes, to the production of which publishers seem to devote their whole labours, utterly regardless of expense. To do it full justice, however, we must confess to not having seen a more handsome volume for a long time. We cannot part with this book, however, without particularly inviting the attention of our readers to it. As an elegant volume for the drawing-room table, or as a Christmas present, it takes a conspicuous place amongst the best of tho books of the season.

WEEKLY REVIEW, This is a superb drawing-room volume, and, so far as we know, may be safely pronounced "the book of the season.' Seldom do we find such a concentration of beauty in illustration,

typography, and binding......... These chromo-lithographs are the great feature of the volume, and the aim has been, not only to produce mere ordinary lithographs, but as near as possible facsimiles of the water-colour drawings of Birket Foster, Harrison Weir, T. Creswick, &c., from which they have been taken. In every case the spirit of the poetry is most happily rendered in the accompanying illustration. The binding is rich and elegant, profusely gilt, with a cluster of fruits and flowers inlaid on the boards This volume is altogether an admirable specimen of the good taste which distinguishes the enterprising publishers, and which, wo hope', may be appreciated by the book-buying community.
