Damascus is about 130 miles north.east of Jerusalem It was long the capital of Syria. See 2 Kings xvi, 10, and Isaiah xvii. 1. Syria, as a province under the Ro man emperor, was now governed by Aretus. This is supposed to have occurred about A. D. 35 or 40, or 2 to 5 years after the ascension.
