This fine series of illustrations was apparently chosen at the beginning of the last century, at the time the book was bound. It consequently consists almost wholly of prints of the XVII. and XVIII. Century, many of which are rare, and all good impressions. The collection might easily be supplemented by the insertion of more recent prints, as the whole copy is singly or doubly interleaved with drawing paper, which is only partially taken up by the illustrations. They include about 25 large and fine mezzotint portraits, chiefly by Smith after Kneller, and among them the beautiful one of Nell Gwynn by Valentine Green after Lely.

T. Vere and N. Brooks, 1652 A VERY INTERESTING COPY, being interleaved and having a multitude of MS. notes in a contemporary hand. They begin with a Petition of SIR ROBERT STRODE, for his release from the Chancery Prison, addressed to Oliver Cromwell and dated "Aprill 22, 1652". The notes are chiefly on matters connected with the Court of Chancery and the latter's affairs, and of Biblical References supporting the astrological arguments of the book. At end is a tract, "A New Year's Gift, 1651, to all those that have laid out chearfully, or valiantly, their purses or persons, to England's happy Parliament."
