This French-language set presents records of the public sales of paintings in France during the early nineteenth century. The work features more than twenty-one thousand paintings from 240 documented sales during the period, rendering a rich and detailed view of the state of collecting and tastes in France during the Napoleonic period. The work also identifies numerous collectors and dealers for the first time and provides a detailed introduction and commentary on each of the auctions along with an index of paintings by artist.
