A letter from home made me hasten my journey from hence, and the conclusion of a most gratifying excursion; bidding therefore this place adieu, I hastily tended forward to my native town, where I had to meet friends, and to embrace those near and dear to me by every tie of blood and attachment.

As I found the journey rapidly shortening, and the distance I had traversed warned me of its approaching termination, I felt oppressed by the varied and mingled sensations which the prospect and the past created. Memory was not inactive, the scenes I had now to leave behind me rose in pleasing review before me ;— the beautiful scenery I had beheld, the path I had traversed, the waters I had navigated, and the remembrance of the fine portion of nature I had passed, all realized in my mind a source of enduring enjoyment, and left in my breast a thousand charming impressions, which my thoughts loved incessantly to dwell upon. How lovely is nature!-how pure her gratifications! -and how improving the memory of her acquaintance.

The retrospect at this moment creates a deep and unmingled emotion of delight; need you wonder then, that at bidding her adieu, I experienced a pain as of one parting from a beloved and much attached friend.

These scenes I shall perhaps witness no more, but their recollections will remain, for

My heart some long lost image would renew, "Delightful haunts !-1 will remember you.
