Declensions with the definite Article.

The definite article (l'article défini) is rendered ,le" before a masculine noun, and „la“ before a feminine noun, as: le père, the father; la mère, the mother. The Plural for both genders is ,les, as; les pères, the fathers, les mères, the mothers. If the article „le“ and „la“ stand before a vowal or silent „H“, the e or a is omitted and an Apostrophe substituted, as :

not le arbre but l'arbre, the tree.
not la école but l'école, the school.

not le habit but l'habit, the dress. The plural however is as usual: les arbres, les écoles, les habits.
