For, if ye forgive men their trefpaffes, your heavenly
Father will alfo forgive you.
But if ye forgive not men their trefpaffes, neither

CHAP. XIX.
Of not laying up treasures upon earth, but of
laying them up in heaven, and of trust in
God's providence.

Lay not up for your felves treasures upon earth,
where moth and ruft doth corrupt, and where
thieves break through and steal.
But lay up for your felves treasures in heaven, where
neither moth nor ruft doth corrupt, and where
thieves do not break through and fteal.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be
alfo.
The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye
be fingle, thy whole body fhall be full of light.
But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body fhall be full
of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee
be darkness, bow great is that darkness?
No man can ferve two masters; for either he will
bate the one, and love the other; or else he will
bold to the one, and defpife the other. Te cannot
ferve God and mammon.
Therefore I fay unto you, Take no thought for your
life, what ye fhall eat, or what ye shall drink;
nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on is not
the life more than meat, and the body than rai-
ment?
Behold the fowls of the air: for they fow not, nei-
ther do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your
heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much
better than they?
Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit un-
to his ftature?
And why take ye thought for raiment? Confider the
lillies of the field, how they grow; they toil not,
neither do they fpin.
And yet I fay unto you, that even Solomon in all
bis glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Wherefore if God fo clothe the grass of the field,
which to day is, and to morrow is caft into the
oven; fhall be not much more clothe you, O ye of
"little faith?

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we
eat? or what shall we drink? or wherewithal
fball we be clothed?
For after all these things do the Gentiles feek; for
your heavenly Father knoweth that ye bave need of
all these things.
But
But feek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righte-
oufnefs, and all these things fhall be added unto
you.
-Take therefore no thought for the morrow, for the
morrow fhall take thought for the things of it felf:
fufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. p. 302,

CHAP. XX.
Of CENSURE and of REPROOF.
MATT. vii. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
Judge not, that ye be not judged.
For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged:
and with what measure ye mete, it shall be mea-
fured to you again.
And why beholdeft thou the mote that is in thy bro-
ther's eye, but confidereft not the beam that is in
thine own eye?
Or how wilt thou fay to thy brother, Let me pull
out the mote out of thine eye, and behold a beam is
in thine own eye?
Thou hypocrite, first caft out the beam out of thine
own eye, and then shalt thou fee clearly to caft out
the mote out of thy brother's eye.
Give not that which is holy unto dogs, neither caft ye
your pearls before fwine, left they trample them
under their feet, and turn again and rent you,

Of Importunity in Prayer, and of doing as we
would be done by.

Afk and it fhall be given you: Seek and ye shall find :
Knock, and it fhall be opened unto you.
For every one that afketh, receiveth: And he that
feeketh, findeth: And to him that knocketh, it
Shall be opened.
Or what man is there of you, whom if his fon afk
bread, will be give him a ftone?·
Or if he afk a fif, will be give him a ferpent?
If ye then being evil, know how to give good gifts
unto your children, how much more ball your Fa-
ther which is in heaven, give good things to them
that afk him?
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men
fhould do to you, do ye even fo to them: For this
is the law and the Prophets.

and broad is the way that leadeth to deftruction,
and many there be that go in thereat.

that leadeth unto life, and few there be that find

CHAP. XXIII.
Of Falfe Teachers.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
-Ye shall know them by their fruits: Do men gather
grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?
Even fo every good tree bringeth forth good fruit:
But a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit: Neither
can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, is hewn
down and caft into the fire.
Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. P. 375.
