29 Or quivi era posto un vaso pien d'aceto. Coloro adunque, empiuta di quell' aceto una spugna, e postala intorno a dell' isopo, gliela porsero alla bocca.

30 Quando adunque Gesù ebbe preso l'aceto, disse: Ogni cosa è compiuta. E, chinato il capo, rendè lo spirito.

31 Or i Giudei pregaron Pilato che si fiaccasser loro le gambe, e che si togliesser via; acciocchè i corpi non restassero in su la croce nel sabato, perciocchè era la preparazione; conciossiachè quel giorno del sabato fosse un gran giorno.

32 I soldati adunque vennero, e fiaccaron le gambe al primo, e poi anche all' altro, ch' era stato crocifisso con lui.

33 Ma, essendo venuti a Gesù, come videro ch' egli già era morto, non gli fiaccarono le gambe.

34 Ma uno de' soldati gli forò il costato con una lancia, e subito ne uscì sangue ed acqua.

35 E colui che l'ha veduto ne rendè testimonianza, e la sua testimonianza è verace; ed esso sa che egli dice cose vere, acciocchè voi crediate.

36 Perciocchè queste cose sono avvenute, acciocchè la scrittura fosse adempiuta: Niun'osso d'esso sarà fiaccato.

37 E ancora un' altra scrittura dice: Essi vedranno colui che han❘ trafitto.

38 Dopo queste cose, Giuseppe da Arimatea, il quale era discepolo di Gesù, ma occulto, per tema de' Giudei, chiese a Pilato di poter togliere il corpo di Gesù, e Pilato gliel | permise. Egli adunque venne, e tolse il corpo di Gesù.

39 Or venne anche Nicodemo, che al principio era venuto a Gesù di notte, portando intorno di cento libbre d'una composizione di mirra, e d' aloe.

40 Essi adunque presero il corpo di Gesù, e l' involsero in lenzuoli, con quegli aromati; secondo ch'è l'usanza de' Giudei d' imbalsamare.

29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar and they filled a sponge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.

30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was a high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:

34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true; and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.

36 For these things were done, that the Scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

37 And again another Scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

38 And after this Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus.

39 And there came also Nicodemus, (which at the first came to Jesus by night,) and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pound weight.

40 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.

3 Pietro adunque, e l' altro discepolo uscirono fuori, e vennero al monumento.

4 Or correvano amendue insieme; ma quell' altro discepolo corse innanzi più prestamente che Pietro, e venne il primo al monumento.

5 E, chinatosi, vide le lenzuola che giacevano nel monumento; ma non vi entrò.

6 E Simon Pietro, che lo seguitava, venne, ed entrò nel monumento, e vide le lenzuola che giacevano,

7 E lo sciugatoio ch' era sopra il capo di Gesù, il qual non giaceva con le lenzuola, ma era involto da parte in un luogo.

8 Allora adunque l' altro discepolo, ch' era venuto il primo al imonumento, vi entrò anch' egli, e vide, e credette.

19 Perciocchè essi non aveano ancora conoscenza della scrittura, che conveniva ch' egli risuscitasse da' morti.

10 I discepoli adunque se ne andaron di nuovo a casa loro.

11 Ma Maria se ne stava presso al monumento, piagnendo di fuori; e mentre piagneva, si chinò dentro al monumento,

12 E vide due angeli, vestiti di bianco, i quali sedevano, l' uno dal

CHAPTER 20.

eth Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre. 2 Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him.

3 Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre.

4 So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.

5 And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in.

6 Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie,

7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

8 Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.

9 For as yet they knew not the Scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.

10 Then the disciples went away again unto their own home.

11 ¶ But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,

12 And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and

15 Gesù le disse: Donna, perchè piagni? chi cerchi? Ella, pensando ch' egli fosse l'ortolano, gli disse: Signore, se tu l' hai portato via, dimmi ove tu l' hai posto, ed io lo torrò.

16 Gesù le disse: Maria! Ed ella, rivoltasi, gli disse: Rabboni! che vuol dire Maestro.

17 Gesù le disse: Non toccarmi, perciocchè io non sono ancora salito al Padre mio; ma va a' miei fratelli, e di' loro, ch' io salgo al Padre mio, ed al Padre vostro; e all' Iddio mio, e all' Iddio vostro.

18 Maria Maddalena venne, annunziando a' discepoli ch' ella avea veduto il Signore, e ch' egli le avea dette quelle cose.

19 Ora, quando fu sera, in quell'istesso giorno ch' era il primo della settimana; ed essendo le porte del luogo, ove erano raunati i discepoli, serrate per tema de' Giudei, Gesù venne, è si presentò quivi in mezzo, e disse loro: Pace a voi!

20 E, detto questo, mostrò loro le sue mani, e il costato. I discepoli adunque, veduto il Signore, si rallegrarono.

21 E Gesù di nuovo disse loro: Pace a voi! come il Padre mi ha mandato, così vi mando io.

22 E, detto questo, soffiò loro nel viso; e disse loro: Ricevete lo Spirito Santo:

23 A cui voi avrete rimessi i peccati saran rimessi, e a cui gli avrete ritenuti saran ritenuti.

24 Or Toma, detto Didimo, l' un de' dodici, non era con loro, quando Gesù venne.

13 And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.

14 And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.

15 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.

17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that he had spoken these things unto her.

19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

20 And when he had so said, he shewed unto them his hands and his side. Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord.

21 Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you.

22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

23 Whosesoever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whosesoever sins ye retain, they are retained.

24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

25 Gli altri discepoli adunque gli dissero: Noi abbiam veduto il Signore. Ma egli disse loro: Se io non veggo nelle sue mani il segnal de' chiodi, e se non metto il dito nel segnal de' chiodi, e la mano nel suo costato, io non lo crederò.

26 E, otto giorni appresso, i discepoli eran di nuovo dentro la casa, e Toma era con loro. E Gesù venne, essendo le porte serrate, e si presentò quivi in mezzo, e disse: Pace a voi!

27 Poi disse a Toma: Porgi qua il dito, e vedi le mie mani; porgi anche la mano, e mettila nel mio costato; e non sii incredulo, anzi credente.

28 E Toma rispose, e gli disse: Signor mio, ed Iddio mio.

29 Gesù gli disse: Perciocchè tu hai veduto, Toma, tu hai creduto; beati coloro che non han veduto, ed han creduto.

30 Or Gesù fece ancora, in presenza de' suoi discepoli, molti altri miracoli, i quali non sono scritti in questo libro.

31 Ma queste cose sono scritte, acciocchè voi crediate che Gesù è il Cristo, il Figliuol di Dio; ed acciocchè, credendo, abbiate vita nel

nome suo.

CAPO 21.

OPO queste cose, Gesù si fece vedere di nuovo a' discepoli presso al mar di Tiberiade; e si fece vedere in questa maniera ; 2 Simon Pietro, e Toma, detto Didimo, e Natanael, ch' era da Cana di Galilea, e i figliuoli di Zebedeo, e due altri de' discepoli d' esso, erano insieme.

3 Simon Pietro disse loro: Io me ne vo a pescare. Essi gli dissero: Ancor noi veniam teco. Così uscirono, e montarono prestamente nella navicella, e in quella notte non preser nulla.

4 Ma, essendo già mattina, Gesù si presentò in su la riva; tuttavolta

unto you.

27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side; and be not faithless, but believing.

28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

CHAPTER 21.

Fed himself again to the disFTER these things Jesus shewciples at the sea of Tiberias; and on this wise shewed he himself.

2 There were together Simon Peter, and Thomas called Didymus, and Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two other of his disciples.

3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.

4 But when the morning was now..come, Jesus stood on the

6 Ed egli disse loro: Gettate la rete al lato destro della navicella, e ne troverete. Essi adunque la gettarono, e non potevano più trarla, per la moltitudine de' pesci.

7 Laonde quel discepolo che Gesù amava disse a Pietro: Egli è il Signore. E Simon Pietro, udito che egli era il Signore, succinse la sua camicia (perciocchè egli era nudo), c si gettò nel mare.

8 Ma gli altri discepoli vennero in su la navicella (perciocchè non erano molto lontan da terra, ma solo intorno di dugento cubiti), traendo la rete piena di pesci.

9 Come adunque furono smontati in terra, videro delle brace poste, e del pesce messovi su, e del pane.

10 Gesù disse loro: Portate qua de' pesci che ora avete presi.

11 Simon Pietro montò nella navicella, e trasse la rete in terra, piena di cencinquantatre grossi pesci; e, benchè ve ne fosser tanti, la rete però non si stracciò.

12 Gesù disse loro: Venite, e desinate. Or niuno de' discepoli ardiva domandargli : Tu chi sei? sapendo ch' egli era il Signore.

13 Gesù adunque venne, e prese il pane, e ne diede loro; e del pesce simigliantemente.

14 Questa fu già la terza volta che Gesù si fece vedere a' suoi discepoli, dopo che fu risuscitato da' morti.

15 Ora, dopo ch' ebbero desinato, Gesù disse a Simon Pietro: Simon di Giona, m' ami tu più che costoro? Egli gli disse: Veramente, Signore, tu sai ch' io t' amo. Gesù gli disse: Pasci i miei agnelli.

16 Gli disse ancora la seconda volta: Simon di Giona, m' ami tu?

5 Then Jesus saith unto them, Children, have ye any meat ? They answered him, No.

6 And he said unto them, Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find. They cast therefore, and now they were not able to draw it for the multitude of fishes.

7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved saith unto Peter, It is the Lord. Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he girt his fisher's coat unto him, (for he was naked,) and did cast himself into the sea.

8 And the other disciples came in a little ship, (for they were not far from land, but as it were two hundred cubits,) dragging the net with fishes.

9 As soon then as they were come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.

10 Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now caught.

11 Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land full of great fishes, a hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, yet was not the net broken.

12 Jesus saith unto them, Come and dine. And none of the disciples durst ask him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

13 Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise.

14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas,
