2 Conciossiachè voi stessi sappiate molto bene, che il giorno del Signore verrà come un ladro di notte.

3 Perciocchè, quando diranno: Pace, e sicurtà, allora di subito sopraggiugnerà loro perdizione, come i dolori del parto alla don na gravida; e non iscamperanno punto.

4 Ma voi, fratelli, non siete in tenebre, si che quel giorno vi colga, a guisa di ladro.

5 Voi tutti siete figliuoli di luce, e figliuoli di giorno; noi non siam della notte, nè delle tenebre;

6 Perciò, non dormiamo, come gli altri; ma vegliamo, e siam sobri.

7 Perciocchè coloro che dormono dormon di notte, e coloro che s' inebbriano s' inebbrian di notte. 8 Ma noi,essendo figliuoli del gior no, siamo sobri, vestiti dell' usber

3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day we are not of the night, nor of dark

ness.

6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breast

12 Ora, fratelli, noi vi preghiamo di riconoscer coloro che fra voi faticano, e che vi son preposti nel Signore, e che vi ammoniscono; 13 E d'averli in somma stima in carità, per l'opera loro. Vivete in pace fra voi.

14 Ora, fratelli, noi vi esortiamo che ammoniate i disordinati, confortiate i pusillanimi, sostentiate i deboli, siate pazienti inverso tutti. 15 Guardate che niuno renda male per male ad alcuno; anzi procacciate sempre il bene, così gli uni inverso gli altri, come inverso tutti. 16 Siate sempre allegri.

17 Non restate mai d' orare. 18 In ogni cosa rendete grazie, perciocchè tale è la volontà di Dio in Cristo Gesù inverso voi.

19 Non ispegnete lo Spirito. 20 Non isprezzate le profezie. 21 Provate ogni cosa, ritenete il bene.

22 Astenetevi da ogni apparenza di male.

23 Or l' Iddio della pace vi santifichi egli stesso tutti intieri; e sia conservato intiero il vostro spirito, e l'anima, e il corpo, senza biasimo, all' avvenimento del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo.

24 Fedele è colui che vi chiama, il quale ancora lo farà.

25 Fratelli, pregate per noi. 26 Salutate tutti i fratelli con un santo bacio.

27 Io vi scongiuro per lo Signore, che questa epistola sia letta a tutti i santi fratelli.

28 La grazia del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo sia con voi. Amen. La prima a' Tessalonicesi fu scritta d' Atene.

2 Grazia a voi, e pace, da Dio nostro Padre, e dal Signor Gesù Cristo.

3 Noi siamo obbligati di render sempre grazie di voi a Dio, fratelli, come egli è ben convenevole; perciocchè la vostra fede cresce sommamente, e la carità di ciascun di tutti voi abbonda fra voi scambievolmente;

4 Talche noi stessi ci gloriamo di voi nelle chiese di Dio, per la vostra sofferenza, e fede, in tutte le vostre persecuzioni, ed afflizioni, che voi sostenete.

5 Il che è una dimostrazione del giusto giudicio di Dio, acciocchè siate reputati degni del regno di Dio, per lo quale ancora patite.

6 Conciossiachè sia cosa giusta appo Iddio, di rendere afflizione a coloro che vi affliggono;

7 E a voi, che siete afflitti, requie con noi, quando il Signor Gesù Cristo apparirà dal cielo, con gli angeli della sua potenza;

8 Con fuoco fiammeggiante, prendendo vendetta di coloro che non conoscono Iddio, e di coloro che non ubbidiscono all' evangelo del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo;

3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God, for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:

5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;

7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe

12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

CHAPTER 2.

OW we beseech you, brethren,

Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

5 Non vi ricordate voi che, essendo ancora appo voi, io vi diceva queste cose?

6 Ed ora voi sapete ciò che lo ritiene, acciocchè egli sia manifestato al suo tempo.

7 Perciocchè già fino ad ora opera il misterio dell' iniquità; aspettando solo che colui che lo ritiene al presente sia tolto di mezzo.

8 E allora sarà manifestato quell'empio, il quale il Signore distruggerà per lo spirito della sua bocca, e ridurrà al niente per l' apparizion del suo avvenimento.

9 Del qual empio l'avvenimento sarà, secondo l'operazione di Satana, con ogni potenza, e prodigi, e miracoli di menzogna;

5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 E con ogni inganno d' iniquità, in coloro che periscono, perciocchè non han dato luogo all' amor della verità, per esser salvati.

11 E però Iddio manderà loro efficacia d' errore, affin che credano alla menzogna;

12 Acciocchè sieno giudicati tutti coloro che non han creduto alla verità, ma si son compiaciuti nell' iniquità.

13 Ma noi siamo obbligati di render del continuo grazie di voi a Dio, fratelli amati dal Signore, di ciò che Iddio vi ha eletti dal principio a salute, in santificazion di Spirito, e fede alla verità.

14 A che egli vi ha chiamati per lo nostro evangelo, all' acquisto della gloria del Signor nostro Gesù Cristo.

15 Perciò, fratelli, state saldi, e ritenete gl' insegnamenti che avete imparati per parola, o per epistola

nostra.

16 Ora, il Signor nostro Gesù Cristo stesso, e l' Iddio e Padre nostro, il qual ci ha amati, e ci ha data eterna consolazione, e buona speranza in grazia;

17 Consoli i cuori vostri, e vi confermi in ogni buona parola, ed opera.

CAPO 3.

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteous

ness.

13 But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,

17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.

CHAPTER 3.

3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.

4 And we have confidence in the Lord touching you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you.

5 And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. 513
