7 Figlioletti, nessun vi seduca; chi opera la giustizia è giusto, siccome esso è giusto.

8 Chiunque fa il peccato, è dal diavolo; conciossiachè il diavolo pecchi dal principio; per questo è apparito il Figliuol di Dio, acciocche disfaccia l' opere del diavolo.

9 Chiunque è nato da Dio, non fa peccato; perciocchè il seme d' esso dimora in lui; e non può peccare, perciocchè è nato da Dio.

10 Per questo son manifesti i figliuoli di Dio, e i figliuoli del diavolo; chiunque non opera la giustizia, e chi non ama il suo fratello, non è da Dio.

11 Perciocchè questo è l' annunzio, che voi avete udito dal principio, che noi amiamo gli uni gli altri.

12 E non facciamo come Caino, il quale era dal maligno, e uccise il suo fratello; e, per qual cagione l'uccise egli? perciocchè l' opere sue eran malvage, e quelle del suo fratello giuste.

13 Non vi maravigliate, fratelli miei, se il mondo vi odia.

14 Noi, perciocchè amiamo i fratelli, sappiamo che siamo stati trasportati dalla morte alla vita; chi non ama il fratello dimora nella morte.

15 Chiunque odia il suo fratello, è micidiale; e voi sapete che alcun micidiale non ha la vita eterna dimorante in sè.

16 In questo noi abbiam conosciuto l'amor di Dio, ch' esso ha posta l'anima sua per noi; ancora noi dobbiam porre l' anime per li fratelli.

17 Ora, se alcuno ha de' beni del mondo, e vede il suo fratello aver bisogno, e gli chiude le sue viscere, come dimora l'amor di Dio in lui?

18 Figlioletti miei, non amiamo di parola, nè della lingua; ma d' opera, e in verità.

19 E in questo conosciamo che noi siam della verità, e accerteremo i cuori nostri nel suo cospetto.

7 Little children, let no man deceive you he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

12 Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.

13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.

14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

17 But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?

18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

8 Chi non ama non ha conosciuto Iddio; conciossiachè Iddio sia carità. 9 In questo si è manifestata la carità di Dio inverso noi, che Iddio ha mandato il suo Unigenito nel mondo, acciocchè per lui viviamo.

10 In questo è la carità, non che noi abbiamo amato Iddio, ma che egli ha amati noi, e ha mandato il suo Figliuolo, per esser purgamento de' nostri peccati.

11 Diletti, se Iddio ci ha così amati, ancor noi ce dobbiamo amar gli uni gli altri.

12 Niuno vide giammai Iddio se noi ci amiam gli uni gli altri, Iddio dimora in noi, e la sua carità è compiuta in noi.

13 Per questo conosciamo che dimoriamo in lui, ed egli in noi, perciocchè egli ci ha donato del suo Spirito.

14 E noi siamo stati spettatori, e testimoniamo che il Padre ha mandato il Figliuolo, per essere Salvatore del mondo.

15 Chi avrà confessato che Gesù è il Figliuol di Dio, Iddio dimora in lui, ed egli in Dio.

16 E noi abbiam conosciuta, e creduta la carità che Iddio ha inverso noi. Iddio è carità; e chi dimora nella carità, dimora in Dio, e Iddio dimora in lui.

17 In questo è compiuta la carità inverso noi (acciocchè abbiam confidanza nel giorno del giudicio); che, quale egli è, tali siamo ancor noi in questo mondo.

18 Paura non è nella carità; anzi la compiuta carità caccia fuori la paura; conciossiachè la paura abbia pena; e chi teme non è compiuto nella carità.

19 Noi l' amiamo, perciocchè egli ci ha amati il primo.

20 Se alcuno dice: Io amo Iddio, ed odia il suo fratello, è bugiardo; perciocchè, chi non ama il suo fratello, ch' egli ha veduto, come può amare Iddio, ch' egli non ha veduto?

21 E questo comandamento abbiam da lui, che chi ama Iddio, ami ancora il suo fratello.

8 He that loveth not, knoweth not God; for God is love.

9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.

13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

15 Whosoever shall confess that . Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

19 We love him, because he first loved us.

20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

CHAPTER 5.

HOSOEVER believeth that

2 Per questo conosciamo che amiamo i figliuoli di Dio, quando amiamo Iddio, e osserviamo i suoi comandamenti.

3 Perciocchè questo è l' amore di Dio, che noi osserviamo i suoi comandamenti; e i suoi comandamenti non sono gravi.

4 Conciossiachè tutto quello che è nato da Dio vinca il mondo; e questa è la vittoria che ha vinto il mondo, cioè, la fede nostra.

5 Chi è colui che vince il mondo, se non colui che crede che Gesù è il Figliuolo di Dio ?

6 Questi è quel che è venuto con acqua, e sangue, cioè, Gesù Cristo; non con acqua solamente, ma con sangue, e con acqua; e lo Spirito è quel che ne rende testimonianza; conciossiachè lo Spirito sia la verità.

7 Perciocchè tre son quelli che testimonian nel cielo, il Padre, e la Parola, e lo Spirito Santo; e questi tre sono una stessa cosa. 8 Tre ancora son quelli che testimonian sopra la terra, lo Spirito, e l'acqua, e il sangue; e questi tre si riferiscono a quell' una

cosa.

9 Se noi riceviamo la testimonianza degli uomini, la testimonianza di Dio è pur maggiore; conciossiachè questa sia la testimonianza di Dio, la quale egli ha testimoniata del suo Figliuolo.

10 Chi crede nel Figliuol di Dio, ha quella testimonianza in sè stesso; chi non crede a Dio, lo fa bugiardo; conciossiachè non abbia creduto alla testimonianza, che Iddio ha testimoniata intorno al suo Figliuolo.

11 E la testimonianza è questa: Che Iddio ci ha data la vita eterna, e che questa vita è nel suo Figliuolo.

12 Chi ha il Figliuolo, ha la vita;

of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.

2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.

3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood and these three agree in one.

9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life;

chi non ha il Figliuol di Dio, non

ha la vita.

13 Io ho scritte queste cose a voi che credete nel nome del Figliuol di Dio, acciocchè sappiate che avete la vita eterna, e acciocchè crediate nel nome del Figliuol di Dio.

14 E questa è la confidanza che abbiamo appo lui, che, se domandiamo alcuna cosa secondo la sua volontà, egli ci esaudisce.

15 E, se sappiamo che, qualunque cosa chieggiamo, egli ci esaudisce, noi sappiamo che abbiam le cose che abbiam richieste da lui.

16 Se alcuno vede il suo fratello commetter peccato che non sia a morte, preghi Iddio, ed egli gli donerà la vita, cioè, a quelli che peccano, ma non a morte. Vi è un peccato a morte; per quello io non dico che egli preghi.

17 Ogni iniquità è peccato; ma v' è alcun peccato che non è a morte. 18 Noi sappiamo che chiunque è nato da Dio non pecca; ma chi è nato da Dio conserva sè stesso, e il maligno non lo tocca.

19 Noi sappiamo che siam da Dio e che tutto il mondo giace nel maligno.

20 Ma noi sappiamo che il Figliuol di Dio è venuto, e ci ha dato intendimento, acciocchè conosciamo colui che è il vero; e noi siamo nel vero, nel suo Figliuol Gesù Cristo; questo è il vero Dio, e la vita eterna.

21 Figlioletti, guardatevi dagli idoli. Amen.

and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us:

15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.

16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it.

17 All unrighteousness is sin : and there is a sin not unto death. 18 We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked toucheth him not.

one

19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true; and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
