The first part of the book deals with the Jews in the Iberian peninsula from the Roman period, through Muslim and Christian rule, up to the expulsion (1492). The second part deals with Sephardic Jewry in the Diaspora up to the present. Mentions antisemitism, forced conversions, and persecutions throughout the book, as well as describing the life of Marranos and the activities of the Inquisition.
