Haggai ii. 6-9.-For thus faith the Lord of Hofts. Yet once,

it is a little while, and I will fhake the heavens, and the earth

and the fea, and the dry land; and I will fhake all nations,

and the defire of all nations fhall come and I will fill this

houfe with glory, faith the Lord of Hofts. The filver is

mine, and the gold is mine, faith the Lord of Hofts. The

glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former,

faith the Lord of Hofts: and in this place will I give peace,

faith the Lord of Hofts.

Luke i. 11-20.-And there appeared unto him an angel of the

Lord ftanding on the right fide of the altar of incenfe. And

when Zacharias faw him he was troubled, and fear fell up-

on him. But the angel faid unto him, fear not, Zacharias :

for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elifabeth fhall bear

thee a fon, and thou fhalt call his name John. And thou

fhalt have joy and gladness; and many fhall rejoice at his

birth. For he shall be great in the fight of the Lord, and

fhall drink neither wine nor ftrong drink; and he shall be

filled with the Holy Ghoft, even from his mother's, womb.

And many
of the children of Ifrael shall he turn to the Lord

their God. And he shall go before him in the spirit and

power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the chil-

dren, and the difobedient to the wifdom of the juft; to make

ready a people prepared for the Lord. And Zacharias faid

unto the angel, whereby fhall I know this? for I am an old

man, and my wife well ftricken in years. And the angel

anfwering, faid unto him, I am Gabriel, that ftand in the

prefence of God; and am fent to fpeak unto thee, and to

fhew thee thefe glad tidings. And, behold, thou shalt be

dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things

fhall be performed, because thou believeft not my words,

which fhall be fulfilled in their feason.

Luke i. 26-33.-And in the fixth month the Angel Gabriel

was fent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth.

To a virgin efpoufed to a man, whole name was Jofeph, of

the house of David ; and the virgin's name was Mary. And

the angel came in unto her, and faid, hail thou that art high-

ly favoured, the Lord is with thee; hleffed art thou among

women. And when the faw him he was troubled at his

faying, and caft in her mind what manner of falutation this

hould be. And the angel faid unto her, fear not, Mary:

for thou haft found favour with God. And behold, thou

fhalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a fon, and shall

call his name Jefus. He fhall be great, and fhall be called

the fon of the higheft and the Lord God fhall give unto

him the throne of his father David: and he fhall reign over

the houfe of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there (hall

be no end.

Luke, ii, 1-14.-And it came to pafs in thofe days, that there

went out a decree from Cefar Auguftus, that all the world

fhould be taxed, (and this taxing was first made when Cyre-

nius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, ev-

ery one into his own city. And Jofeph alfo went up from

Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the

city of David, which is called Bethlehem, (because he was

of the house and lineage of David) To be taxed with Mary

his efpoufed wife, being great with child. And fo it was,

while they were there, the days were accomplished that the

fhould be delivered. And he brought forth her first-born

Ion, and wrapped him in fwaddling-clothes, and laid him in

a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

And there were in the fame country fhepherds abiding in

the field, keeping watch over their flock by night, And,

I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all

clothes, lying in a manger. And fuddenly there was with

the angel a multitude of the heavenly hoft, praising God,

and faying, Glory to God in the higheft, and on earth peace,

good will toward men.

Luke, ii. 41—52.-Now his parents went to Jerufalem every

year at the feaft of the paffover. And when he was twelve.

years old, they went up to Jerufalem after the custom of the

feaft. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they return-

ed, the child Jefus tarried behind in Jerufalem; and Joseph,

and his mother knew not of it. But they, fuppofing him to

have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they

fought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And

when they found him not, they turned back again to Jeru-

falem seeking him. And it came to pafs, that after three.

days they found him in the temple, fitting in the midst of the

doctors, both hearing them and asking them queftions. And

all that heard him were aftonished at his understanding and

answers. And when they faw him, they were amazed and

his mother faid unto him, Son, why haft thou thus dealt with,

us ? behold, thy father and I have fought thee forrowing.

And he said unto them, how is it that ye fought me ? wist ye.

not that I must be about my father's business ? And they un-

derstood

derstood not the faying which he spake unto them. And he

went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was fub-

ject unto them; but his mother kept all these sayings in her
heart. And Jefus increafed in wifdom and flature, and in
favour with God and man.

Luke, iii. 21-23.-Now, when all the people were baptized,

it came to pafs, that Jefus alfo being baptized, and praying,

the heaven was opened, and the Holy Ghoft defcended in a

bodily fhape, like a dove, upon him, and a voice came from

heaven, which faid, thou art my beloved fon; in thee I am
well pleased. And Jefus himself began to be about thirty
years of age, being, (as was fuppofed) the fan of Jofeph,

Matt. iv. 1-11.-Then was Jefus led up of the Spirit into the

wilderness, to be tempted of the Devil. And when he had

fafted forty days and forty nights, he was afterwards an hun-

gered. And when the tempter came to him he faid, it thou

be the fon of God, command that these stones be made bread.

But he answered and faid, it is written, man fhall not live by

bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the

mouth of God. And the Devil taketh him up into the holy

city, and fetteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, and faith

unto him, if thou be the Son of God, caft thyfelt down: for

it is written, he fhall give his angels charge concerning thee;

and in their hands they fhall bear thee up, left at any time

thou dafh thy foot against a ftone. Jefus faid unto him, it

is written again, thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Again the Devil taketh him up into an exceeding high

mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world,

and

and the glory of them, and faith unto him, all these things

will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Then faith Jefus unto him, get thee hence, Satan : for it is

written, thou fhalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only

halt thou ferve. Then the Devil leaveth him, and, behold,

angels came and miniftered unto him.

Luke, iv. 18-32.-And when the Devil had ended all the

temptation he departed from him for a season, And Jefus

returned in the power of the spirit into Galilee: and there

went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

And he taught in their fynagogues, being glorified of all

and, as his custom was, he went into the fynagogue on the

Sabbath day, and stood up for to read. And there was de-

livered unto him the book of the prophet Efaias: and, when

he had opened the book, he found the place where it was

anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor; he hath fent

me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the

captives, and recovering of fight to the blind, to fet at liber-

ty them that are bruifed; to preach the acceptable year of

the Lord. And he clofed the book, and he gave it again to

the minifter, and fat down. And the eyes of all them that

were in the fynagogue were faftened on him. And he be-

gan to fay unto them, this day is this Scripture fulfilled in

your ears. And all bare him witnefs, and wondered at the

gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And

they said, is not this Jofeph's fon? And he faid unto them,

ye will furely fay unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thy-

felf: whatfoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do al-

fo here in thy country. And he faid, verily, I fay unto you,

no prophet is accepted in his own country. But I tell you

of a truth, many widows were in Ifrael in the days of Elias,

when the heaven was fhut up three years and fix months,

when great famine was throughout all the land; but unto

none of them was Elias fent, fave unto Sarepta, a city of Si-

don, unto a woman that was a widow. And many lepers
