WILL BE READY NOVEMBER 25th.

BRIGHTLY'S BIENNIAL DIGEST

OF THE

LAWS OF THE UNITED STATES,

From 1857 to 1863.

Imperial 8vo. Price $3 50.

Supplementary to Brightly's United States Digest.

This work is in continuation of and will complete Brightly's United States Digest to the present time. It contains the Public Statutes passed at the last seven sessions of Congress, including the War Legislation of the Thirty-seventh Congress, and the Decisions of the Courts upon Federal Statutes. This book ought to be in the hands of every lawyer and public man, for in addition to the Acts in reference to the Army and Navy of the United States, including the Conscription Law, with the latest decisions upon it, and those relating to the Volunteer Forces, it contains the Laws for the suppression of the Rebellion, the Confiscation Act, the United States Banking Act, the Pension Laws, the Homestead Law, the Tariff Act, with the explanatory decisions of the Treasury Department, and the Excise Law, with all the determinations of the Commissioner of Internal Revenue, taken from the Records under the immediate supervision of the Department, and showing its practical working. The various decisions upon the recent Federal Statutes have been carefully collected, and are now for the first time embodied and presented to the public in a reliable and convenient form.

CAROLS, SONGS, AND DESCRIPTIVE POEMS,

RELATING TO THE FESTIVAL OF CHRISTMAS.

Richly Illustrated with numerous Engravings on Wood from Drawings by Famous Artists.

It is beautifully illustrated by engravings from subjects by the great classical as well as famous modern artists, engraved in a superior manner. It is printed in a novel method, with a tint impression on each page of the book, and is bound in elegant styles. The size of the page corresponds with that of the "Forest Hymn," but it numbers thirty-two pages more than that volume. “Christ was Born on Christmas Day.”

A CAROL.

WITH ILLUSTRATIONS BY JOHN A. HOWS.

This is a peculiarly unique and beautiful edition of a popular Christmas Carol. The illustrations, by Mr. Hows (the distinguished artist to the illustrated Forest Hymn), are of a very original and notable character, evincing a rich exuberance of fancy and a profound acquaintance with the symbols and traditions of medieval art. They are large and singularly effective, both for their novelty and beauty. A rich cluster of holly leaves, exquisitely printed in colors, forms the engraved title-page. The printing, paper, and binding are each the best of its kind. Thirty-six pages, small quarto.

Bound in extra cloth, bevelled boards, gilt sides and edges, price $2 50.

THE VAGABONDS.

BY J. T. TROWBRIDGE.

WITH ILLUSTRATIONS BY F. 0. C. DARLEY.

This is a reprint of a poem that appeared in the "Atlantic Monthly" a few months since, and became at once widely admired for its pathos, humor, and picturesque style. Its peculiar suitability to Mr. Darley's pencil prompted the publisher to issue this illustrated edition of it. Mr. Darley's drawings have been carefully engraved and handsomely printed. Small quarto, paper boards, price $1.
