CHAPTER XIV. FTER two days was the feast

und die Tage der süßen Brode. Und die Hohenpriester und Schriftgelehrten suchten, wie ste ihn mit Lift griffen und tödteten.

2 Sie sprachen aber: Ja nicht auf das Fest, daß nicht ein Aufruhr im Volke werde.

3 Und da er zu Bethanien war in Simons, des Aussätzigen, Hause, und saß zu Tische; da kam ein Weib, die | hatte ein Glas mit ungefälschtem und köstlichem Nardenwasser, und sie zerbrach das Glas, und goß es auf sein Haupt.

4 Da waren etliche, die wurden unwillig, und sprachen: Was soll doch dieser Unrath?

5 Man könnte das Wasser mehr denn um dreh hundert Groschen verkauft haben, und dasselbe den Armen geben. Ünd murreten über sie.

6 Jesus aber sprach: Laßt sie mit Frieden! Was bekümmert ihr sie? Sie hat ein gutes Werk an mir gethan. 7 Ihr habt allezeit Arme beh euch; und wenn ihr wollt, könnet ihr ihnen Gutes thun; mich aber habt ihr nicht allezeit.

8 Sie hat gethan, was sie konnte; sie ist zuvor gekommen, meinen Leich nam zu falben zu meinem Begräbniß.

9 Wahrlich, ich sage euch: Wo dies Evangelium gepredigt wird in aller Welt, da wird man auch das sagen zu ihrem Gedächtniß, das sie jetzt gethan hat.

10 Und Judas Ischarioth, einer von den Zwölfen, ging hin zu den hohen priestern, daß er ihn verriethe.

11 Da sie das höreten, wurden sie froh, und verhießen ihm das Geld zu geben und er suchte, wie er ihn füglich verriethe.

12 Únd am ersten Tage der süßen Brode, da man das Osterlamm opferte, sprachen seine Jünger zu ihm: Wo

leavened bread: and the chief priests, and the scribes, sought how they might take him by craft, and put him to death.

2 But they said, Not on the feastday, lest there be an uproar of the people.

3 And being in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at meat, there came a woman having an alabaster-box of ointment of spikenard, very precious; and she brake the box, and poured it on his head.

4 And there were some that had indignation within themselves, and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred pence, and have been given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.

7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not always.

8 She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying.

9 Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she hath done shall be spoken of, for a memorial of her.

10 ¶ And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.

11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.

12 And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the passover, his disciples said unto

13 Und er fandte seiner Jünger zween, und sprach zu ihnen: Gehet hin in die Stadt, und es wird euch ein Mensch begegnen, der trägt einen Krug mit Wasser, folget ihm nach.

14 Und wo er eingehet, da sprechet zu dem Hauswirthe: Der Meister läßt dir sagen: Wo ist das Gasthaus, darinnen ich das Osterlamm esse mit meinen Jüngern?

15 Und er wird euch einen großen Saal zeigen, der gepflastert und bereitet ist; daselbst richtet für uns zu.

16 Und die Jünger gingen aus, und kamen in die Stadt, und fanden es, wie er ihnen gesagt hatte, und bereiteten das Osterlamm.

17 Am Abend aber kam er mit den Zwölfen.

18 Und als sie zu Tische saßzen, und aßen, sprach Jesus: Wahrlich, ich sage euch, einer unter euch, der mit mir isset, wird mich verrathen.

19 Und sie wurden traurig, und sagten zu ihm, einer nach dem andern: Bin ichs? Und der Andere: Bin ichs?

20 Er antwortete und sprach zu ihnen Einer aus den Zwölfen, der mit mir in die Schüssel tauchet.

21 Zwar des Menschen Sohn gehet hin, wie von ihm geschrieben stehet; wehe aber dem Menschen, durch welch en des Menschen Sohn verrathen wird! Es wäre demselben Menschen besser, daß er nie geboren wäre.

22 Und indem sie aßzen, nahm Jesus das Brod, dankte und brach es, und gab es ihnen und sprach: Nehmet, esset; das ist mein Leib.

23 Und nahm den Kelch, und dankte, und gab ihnen den; und sie tranfen alle daraus.

24 Und er sprach zu ihnen: Das ist mein Blut des neuen Testaments, das für viele vergoffen wird.

and prepare, that thou mayest eat the passover?

13 And he sendeth forth two of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.

14 And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the good-man of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guest-chamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

15 And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.

16 And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the passover.

17 And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.

18 And as they sat, and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me, shall betray me.

19 And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?

20 And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve that dippeth with me in the dish.

21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but wo to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

22 T And as they did eat, Jesus took bread, and blessed, and brake it, and gave to them, and said, Take, eat: this is my body.

23 And he took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them and they all drank of it.

24 And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

26 Und da sie den Lobgesang gesprochen hatten, gingen sie hinaus an den Dehlberg.

27 Und Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Ihr werdet euch in dieser Nacht alle an mir ärgern. Denn es stehet geschrieben: Ich werde den Hirten schlagen, und die Schafe werden sich zerstreu

en.

28 Aber nachdem ich auferstehe, will ich vor euch hingehen in Galiläam. 29 Petrus aber sagte zu ihm: Und wenn sie sich alle ärgerten, so wollte doch ich mich nicht ärgern.

30 Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich, ich sage dir, heute in dieser Nacht. ehe denn der Hahn zwehmal krähet, wirst du mich dreymal verleugnen.

31 Er aber redete noch weiter: Ja wenn ich auch mit dir sterben müßte, wollte ich dich nicht verleugnen. Defselbigen gleichen sagten sie alle.

32 Und sie famen zu dem Hofe, mit Namen Gethsemane. Und er sprach zu seinen Jüngern: Setzet euch hier, bis ich hingehe, und bete.

33 Und nahm zu sich Petrum und Jakobum, und Johannem, und an zu zittern und zu zagen.

34 Und sprach zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist betrübt bis an den Tod! enthaltet euch hier, und wachet.

35 Und ging ein wenig fürbaß, fiel auf die Erde, und betete, daß, so es möglich wäre, die Stunde vorüber ginge.

36 Und sprach: Abba, mein Vater, es ist dir alles möglich, überhebe mich dieses Kelchs; doch nicht was ich will, sondern was du willst.

37 Und kam, und fand sie schlafend. Und sprach zu Petro: Simon, schläfft du? Vermöchtest du nicht eine Stunde zu wachen?

26 ¶ And when they had sung

an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

28 But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee. 29 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.

30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.

31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.

32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

33 And he taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou wilt.

37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

39 Und ging wieder hin, und betete, und sprach dieselbigen Worte. 40 Und fam wieder, und fand sie abermal schlafend; denn ihre Augen waren voll Schlafs, und wußten nicht, was sie ihm antworteten.

41 Und er kam zum dritten Male, und sprach zu ihnen: Ach wollt ihr nun schlafen und ruhen? Es ist genug, die Stunde ist gekommen. Siehe, des Menschen Sohn wird überantwortet in der Sünder Hände.

42 Stehet auf, lasset uns gehen ; siche, der mich verräth, ist nahe.

43 Und alsobald, da er noch redete, kam herzu Judas, der Zwölfen einer, und eine große Schaar mit ihm, mit Schwertern und mit Stangen, von den Hohenpriestern, und Schriftgelehrten und Aeltesten.

44 Und der Verräther hatte ihnen ein Zeichen gegeben, und gesagt: Wel- | chen ich küssen werde, der ist es; den greifet, und führet ihn gewiß.

45 Und da er kam, trat er bald zu ihm, und sprach zu ihm: Rabbi, Rabbi; und küssete ihn.

46 Die aber legten ihre Hände an ihn, und griffen ihn.

47 Einer aber von denen, die dabeh standen, zog sein Schwert aus, und schlug des Hohenpriesters Knecht, und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab.

48 Und Jesus antwortete, und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr seyd ausgegangen, als zu einem Mörder, mit Schwertern und mit Stangen, mich zu fangen.

49 Ich bin täglich bey euch im Tem= pel gewesen, und habe gelehret, und ihr habt mich nicht gegriffen. Aber auf daß die Schrift erfüllet werde.

50 Und die Jünger verließen ihn alle, und flohen.

51 Und es war ein Jüngling, der folgte ihm nach, der war mit Leinwand befleidet auf der bloßen Haut; und die Jünglinge griffen ihn.

52 Er aber ließ die Leinwand fahren, und floh bloß von ihnen.

53 Und sie führeten Jesum zu dem

39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. 40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy;) neither wist they what to answer him.

41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

43 ¶ And immediately while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders.

44 And he that betrayed him, had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, Master; and kissed him.

46 T And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

47 And one of them that stood by, drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

49 I was daily with you in the temple, teaching, and ye took me not but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

50 And they all forsook him and fled.

51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him.

52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked. 53 །། ༩

54 Petrus aber folgte ihm nach von ferne, bis hinein in des Hohenpriesters Pallast; und er war da, und saß bey den Knechten, und wärmete sich beh dem Lichte.

55 Aber die Hohenpriester und der ganze Rath suchten Zeugniß wider Jefum, auf daß sie ihn zum Tode brächten; und fanden nichts.

56 Viele gaben falsches Zeugniß wider ihn, aber ihr Zeugniß stimmete nicht überein.

57 Und etliche standen auf, und gaben falsches Zeugniß wider ihn, und sprachen:

58 Wir haben gehöret, daß er sagte: Ich will den Tempel, der mit Händen gemacht ist, abbrechen, und in drehen Tagen einen andern bauen, der nicht mit Händen gemacht sey.

59 Aber ihr Zeugniß stimmete noch nicht überein.

60 Und der Hohepriester stand auf unter sie, und fragte Jefum, und sprach: Antwortest du nichts zu dem, das diese wider dich zeugen?

61 Er aber schwieg stille, und antwortete nichts. Da fragte ihn der Hohepriester abermal, und sprach zu ihm: Bist du Christus, der Sohn des Hochgelobten ?

62 Jesus aber sprach: Ich bins. Und ihr werdet sehen des Menschen Sohn sitzen zur rechten Hand der Kraft, und fommen mit des Himmels Wolken. 63 Da zerriß der Hohepriester seinen Rock, und sprach: Was bedürfen wir weiter Zeugen?

64 Ihr habt gehöret die Gotteslästerung; was dünket euch? Sie aber verdammeten ihn alle, daß er des Todes schuldig wäre.

65 Da fingen an etliche ihn zu verspeyen, und zu verdecken sein Angesicht, und mit Fäusten zu schlagen, und zu ihm zu sagen: Weissage uns. Und die Knechte schlugen ihm ins Angeficht.

54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at the fire.

55 And the chief priests, and all the council, sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

59 But neither so did their witness agree together.

60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their

hands.
