15 Als aber das Volk im Wahne war, und dachten alle in ihrem Herzen von Johanne, ob er vielleicht Chriftus wäre ;

16 Antwortete Johannes, und sprach zu allen ich taufe euch mit Wasser; es fommt aber ein Stärkerer nach mir, dem ich nicht genugsam bin, daß ich die Riemen seiner Schuhe auflöse. Der wird euch mit dem heiligen Geiste und mit Feuer taufen ;

17 In desselben Hand ist die Wurfschaufel, und er wird seine Tenne fegen, und wird den Weizen in seine Scheuer sammeln, und die Spreu wird er mit ewigem Feuer verbrennen.

18 Und viel anders mehr vermahnete und verkündigte er dem Volke

19 Herodes aber, der Vierfürst, da er von ihm gestraft ward, um Herodias willen, seines Bruders Weib, und um alles Uebels willen, das Herodes that;

20 Ueber das alles legte er Johannem gefangen.

21 Und es begab sich, da sich alles Volf taufen ließ, und Jesus auch getauft war, und betete, daß sich der Himmel aufthat,

22 Und der heilige Geist fuhr hernieder in leiblicher Gestalt auf ihn, wie eine Taube, und eine Stimme tam aus dem Himmel, die sprach: Du bist mein lieber Sohn, an dem ich Wohlgefallen habe.

23 Und Jesus ging in das drehßigste Jahr, und ward gehalten für einen Sohn Josephs; welcher war ein Sohn Eli8,

15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;

16 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with tire unquenchable.

18 And many other things in his exhortation preached he unto the people.

19 But Herod the tetrarch. being reproved by him for Herodias his brother Philip's wife, and for all the evils which Herod had done,

20 Added yet this above all, that he shut up John in prison.

21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,

22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

24 Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,

Jefus

fam wieder von dem Jordan, und ward vom Geiste in die Wüste geführt;

2 Und ward vierzig Tage lang von dem Teufel versucht. Und er aß nichts in denselbigen Tagen; und da dieselbigen ein Ende hätten, hungerte ihn darnach.

3 Der Teufel aber sprach zu ihm: Bist du Gottes Sohn, so sprich zu dem Steine, daß er Brod werde.

4 Und Jesus antwortete, und sprach zu ihm: Es stehet geschrieben: Der Mensch lebt nicht allein vom Brode, sondern von einem jeglichen Worte Gottes.

5 Und der Teufel führete ihn auf einen hohen Berg, und wies ihm alle Reiche der ganzen Welt in einem Augenblicke;

6 Und sprach zu ihm: diese Macht will ich dir alle geben, und ihre Herr lichkeit; denn sie ist mir übergeben, und ich gebe sie, welchem ich will.

7 So du nun mich willst anbeten, so soll es alles dein seyn.

8 Jesus antwortete ihm, und sprach: Hebe dich weg von mir, Satan! es stehet geschrieben: Du sollst Gott, deinen Herrn, anbeten, und ihm alleine dienen.

9 Und er führete ihn gen Jerusalem, und stellete ihn auf des Tempels Zinne, und sprach zu ihm: Bist du Gottes Sohn, so laß dich von hinnen hinunter.

CHAPTER IV.

Holy Ghost, returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

ND Jesus being full of the

2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered.

3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, com' mand this stone that it be made bread.

4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.

6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me, and to whomsoever I will, I give it.

7 If thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.

8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence.

10 Denn es stehet geschrieben: Er wird befehlen seinen Engeln von dir, daß sie dich bewahren,

11 Und auf den Händen tragen, auf daß du nicht etwa deinen Fuß an einen Stein stoßest.

12 Jesus antwortete, und sprach zu ihm: Es ist gesagt: Du sollst Gott, deinen Herrn, nicht versuchen.

13 Und da der Teufel alle Versuchung vollendet hatte, wich er von ihm eine Zeit lang.

14 Und Jesus kam wieder in des Geistes Kraft in Galiläam, und das Gerücht erscholl von ihm durch alle umliegende Derter.

15 Und er lehrete in ihren Schulen, und ward von Jedermann gepriesen. 16 Und er fam gen Nazareth, da er erzogen war, und ging in die Schule nach seiner Gewohnheit am Sabbath tage, und stand auf, und wollte lesen.

17 Da ward ihm das Buch des Propheten Jesaia gereichet. Und da er das Buch herum warf, fand er den Ort, da geschrieben stehet:

18 Der Geist des Herrn ist beh mir, derhalben er mich gefalbet hat, und gesandt zu verkündigen das Evangelium den Armen, zu heilen die zerstoßenen Herzen, zu predigen den Gefangenen, daß ste los seyn sollen, und den Blinden das Gesicht, und den Zerschlagenen, daß sie freh und ledig seyn sollen,

19 und zu predigen das angenehme Jahr des Herrn.

20 Und als er das Buch zuthat, gab er es dem Diener, und setzte sich. Und aller Augen, die in der Schule waren, fahen auf ihn.

21 Und er fing an zu sagen zu ihnen: Heute ist diese Schrift erfüllet vor euren Ohren.

22 Und sie gaben alle Zeugniß von ihm, und wunderten sich der holdseligen Worte, die aus seinem Munde gingen, und sprachen: Ist das nicht Josephs Sohn?

10 For it is written, He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee:

11 And in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

12 And Jesus answering, said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee : and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all.

16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbathday, and stood up for to read.

17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written,

18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.

21 And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph's son ?

23 And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatso

25 Aber in der Wahrheit sage ich euch: Es waren viele Wittwen in Israel zu Eliä Zeiten, da der Himmel verschlossen war dreh Jahre und sechs Monate, da eine große Theurung war im ganzen Lande;

26 Und zu deren keiner ward Elias gesandt, denn allein gen Sarepta der Sidonier, zu einer Wittwe.

27 Und viele Aussätzige waren in Israel zu des Propheten Elisä Zeiten; und deren keiner ward gereiniget, als allein Naeman aus Shrien.

28 Und sie wurden voll Zorns alle, die in der Schule waren, da sie das höreten.

29 Und standen auf, und stießen ihn zur Stadt hinaus, und führeten ihn auf einen Hügel des Berges, darauf ihre Stadt gebauet war, daß sie ihn hinab stürzten.

30 Aber er ging mitten durch sie hinweg,

31 Und kam gen Kapernaum in die Stadt Galiläa, und lehrete sie an den Sabbathen.

32 Und sie verwunderten sich seiner Lehre, denn seine Rede war gewaltig.

33 Und es war ein Mensch in der Schule, beseffen mit einem unsaubern Teufel. Und der schrie laut,

34 Und sprach: Halt, was haben wir mit dir zu schaffen, Jesu von Nazareth? Du bist gekommen, uns zu verderben. Ich weiß, wer du bist, nemlich der Heilige Gottes.

35 Und Jesus bedrohete ihn, und sprach: Verstumme, und fahre aus von ihm. Und der Teufel warf ihn mitten unter ste, und fuhr von ihm aus, und that ihm keinen Schaden.

24 And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.

25 But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land:

26 But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.

27 And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.

28 And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath,

29 And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill, (whereon their city was built,) that they might cast him down headlong. 30 But he, passing through the midst of them, went his way,

31 And came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and taught them on the sabbath-days.

32 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for his word was with power.

33 T And in the synagogue there was a man which had a spirit of an unclean devil; and he cried out with a loud voice,

34 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.

35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him. And when the devil had thrown him in the midst, he came out of him, and hurt him not.
