29 Wer die Braut hat, der ist der Bräutigam; der Freund aber des Bräutigams stehet und höret ihm zu, und freuet sich hoch über des Bräutigams Stimme. Dieselbige meine Freude ist nun erfüllet.

30 Er muß wachsen, ich aber muß abnehmen.

31 Der von oben her kommt, ist über alle. Wer von der Erde ist, der ist von der Erde, und redet von der Erde. Der vom Himmel kommt, der ist über alle,

32 Und zeuget, was er gesehen und gehöret hat, und sein Zeugnißz nimmt Niemand an.

33 Wer es aber annimmt, der versiegelt es, daß Gott wahrhaftig seh.

34 Denn welchen Gott gesandt hat, der redet Gottes Wort; denn Gott gibt den Geist nicht nach dem Maaß.

35 Der Vater hat den Sohn lieb, und hat ihm alles in seine Hand gegeben.

36 Wer an den Sohn glaubet, der hat das ewige Leben. Wer dem Sohne nicht glaubet, der wird das Leben nicht sehen, sondern der Zorn Gottes bleibet über ihm.

Das 4 Capitel.

a nun der Herr inne ward, daß vor die Pharisäer gekommen war, wie Jesus mehr Jünger machte und taufte, denn Johannes,

2 (Wiewohl Jesus selber nicht taufte, sondern seine Jünger;)

3 Verließ er das Land Judäa, und A 30g wieder in Galiläam.

4 Er mußte aber durch Samariam reisen.

5 Da kam er in eine Stadt Samariä, die da heißt Sichar, nahe beh dem Dörflein, das Jakob seinem Sohne Joseph gab.

6 Es war aber daselbst Jakobs Brunnen. Da nun Jesus müde war von

29 He that hath the bride, is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly, because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

31 He that cometh from above is above all he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.

32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.

33 He that hath received his testimony, hath set to his seal that God is true.

34 For he whom God hath sent, speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.

35 The Father loveth the Son and hath given all things into his hand.

36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life and he that believeth not the Son, shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

7 Da kommt ein Weib von Samaria, Wasser zu schöpfen. Jesus spricht zu ihr Gib mir zu trinken.

8 Denn seine Jünger waren in die Stadt gegangen, daß sie Speise kauf

ten.

9 Spricht nun das samaritische Weib zu ihm: Wie bittest du von mir zu trinken, so du ein Jude bist, und ich ein samaritisches Weib? (Denn die Juden haben keine Gemeinschaft mit den Samaritern.)

10 Jesus antwortete, und sprach`zu ihr: Wenn du erkennetest die Gabe Gottes, und wer der ist, der zu dir fagt: Gib mir zu trinken; du bätest ihn, und er gäbe dir lebendiges Wasser.

11 Spricht zu ihm das Weib: Herr, hast du doch nichts, damit du schöpfeft, und der Brunnen ist tief; woher hast du denn lebendiges Wasser?

12 Bist du mehr, denn unser Vater Jakob, der uns diesen Brunnen gegeben hat; und er hat daraus getrunken, und seine Kinder, und sein Vieh? 13 Jesus antwortete, und sprach zu ihr: Wer dieses Wasser trinkt, den wird wieder dürsten.

14 Wer aber das Wasser trinken wird, das ich ihm gebe, den wird ewiglich nicht dürsten; sondern das Wasser, das ich ihm geben werde, das wird in ihm ein Brunnen des Wassers werden, das in das ewige Leben quilIet.

15 Spricht das Weib zu ihm: Herr, gib mir dasselbige Wasser, auf daß mich nicht dürfte, daß ich nicht herkommen müsse zu schöpfen.

16 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Gehe hin, rufe deinen Mann, und komm her. 17 Das Weib antwortete, und sprach zu ihm: Ich habe keinen Mann. Je fus spricht zu ihr: Du hast recht gesagt: Ich habe keinen Mann.

18 Fünf Männer hast du gehabt, und den du nun hast, der ist nicht

7 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Sama ria? for the Jews have no deal ings with the Samaritans.

10 Jesus answered and said un to her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living

water.

11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water, shall thirst again:

14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him, shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him, shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that Í thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

16 Jesus saith unto her, Go call thy husband, and come hither.

17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband:

18 For thou hast had five husbands, and he whom thou now

bein Mann. Da hast du recht gefagt.

19 Das Weib spricht zu ihm: Herr, ich sehe, daß du ein Prophet bist.

20 Unsere Väter haben auf diesem Berge angebetet; und ihr sagt, zu Jerusalem sey die Stätte, da man anbeten soll.

21 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Weib, glaube mir, es kommt die Zeit, daß ihr weder auf diesem Berge, noch zu Jerusalem | werdet den Vater anbeten.

22 Ihr wisset nicht, was ihr anbetet. Wir wissen aber, was wir anbeten; denn das Heil kommt von den Juden. 23 Aber es kommt die Zeit, und ist schon jetzt, daß die wahrhaftigen Anbeter werden den Vater anbeten im Geiste und in der Wahrheit; denn der Vater will auch haben, die ihn also anbeten.

24 Gott ist ein Geist; und die ihn anbeten, die müssen ihn im Geiste und in der Währheit an- | beten.

hast, is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art á prophet.

20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

21 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews.

23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him, must worship him in spirit and in truth.

men wird, so wird er es uns alles verfündigen.

26 Jesus spricht zu ihr: Ich bin es, der mit dir redet.

27 Und über dem tamen seine Jünger, und es nahm ste Wunder, daß er mit dem Weibe redete. Doch sprach Niemand: Was fragst du? oder: Was redest du mit ihr?

28 Da ließ das Weib ihren Krug stehen, und ging hin in die Stadt, und sprach zu den Leuten:

29 Kommt, sehet einen Menschen, der mir gesagt hat alles, was ich gethan habe, ob er nicht Christus seh? 30 Da gingen sie aus der Stadt, und kamen zu ihm.

31 Indeß aber ermahneten ihn die Jünger, und sprachen: Rabbi, iß.

32 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Ich habe eine Speise zu essen, da wisset ihr nicht von.

26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

27 ¶ And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

28 The woman then left her water-pot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

29 Come, see a man which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master,

eat.

32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

33 Da sprachen die Jünger unter einander: Hat ihm Jemand zu essen gebracht?

34 Jesus spricht zu ihnen: Meine Speise ist die, daß ich thue den Willen deß, der mich gesandt hat, und vollende sein Werk.

35 Sagt ihr nicht selbst: Es sind noch vier Monate, so kommt die Ernte? Siehe, ich sage euch: Hebet eure Augen auf, und sehet in das Feld, denn es ist schon weiß zur Ernte.

36 Und wer da schneidet, der empfänget Lohn, und sammelt Frucht zum ewigen Leben, auf daß sich mit einander freuen, der da fået, und der da schneidet.

37 Denn hier ist der Spruch wahr: Dieser säet, der andere schneidet.

38 Ich habe euch gesandt zu schneiden, das ihr nicht habt gearbeitet; andere haben gearbeitet, und ihr schd in ihre Arbeit gekommen.

39 Es glaubten aber an ihn viele der Samariter aus derselbigen Stadt, um des Weibes Rede willen, welches da zeugete: Er hat mir gesagt alles, was ich gethan habe.

40 Als nun die Samariter zu ihm famen, baten sie ihn, daß er bey ihnen bliebe; und er blieb zween Tage da.

41 Und viel mehrere glaubten um seines Worts willen,

42 Und sprachen zum Weibe: Wir glauben nun fort nicht um deiner Rede willen; wir haben selbst gehöret und erkannt, daß dieser ist wahrlich Christus, der Welt Heiland.

43 Aber nach zween Tagen zog er aus von dannen, und zog in Galiläam.

44 Denn er selbst, Jesus, zeugte, daß ein Prophet daheim nichts gilt.

45 Da er nun in Galiläam kam, nahmen ihn die Galiläer auf, die gesehen hatten alles, was er zu Jerusalem auf das Fest gethan hatte. Denn sie waren auch zum Feste gefommen.

33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him aught to eat?

34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to har

vest.

36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, may rejoice together.

37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth. 38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

40 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

41 And many more believed, because of his own word;

42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

43 Now after two days he de. parted thence, and went into Galilee.

44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

45 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

46 Und Jesus kam abermal gen Cana in Galiläa, da er das Wasser hatte zu Wein gemacht.

47 Und es war ein Königischer, deß Sohn lag frank zu Capernaum. Dieser hörete, daß Jesus kam aus Judäa in Galiläam, und ging hin zu ihm, und bat ihn, daß er hinab käme, und hülfe seinem Sohne; denn er war todtfrank.

48 Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: Wenn ihr nicht Zeichen und Wunder sehet, so glaubet ihr nicht.

49 Der Königische sprach zu ihm: Herr, komm hinab, ehe denn mein Kind stirbt.

50 Jesus spricht zu ihm: Gehe hin, dein Sohn lebet. Der Mensch glaubte dem Worte, das Jesus zu ihm sagte, und ging hin.

51 Und indem er hinab ging, begegneten ihm seine Knechte, verkündigten ihm, und sprachen : Dein Kind lebet. 52 Da forschete er von ihnen die Stunde, in welcher es besser mit ihm geworden war. Und sie sprachen zu ihm: Gestern um die siebente Stunde verließ ihn das Fieber.

53 Da merkte der Vater, daß es um die Stunde wäre, in welcher Jesus zu ihm gesagt hatte: Dein Sohn lebet. Und er glaubte mit seinem ganzen Hause.

54 Das ist nun das andere Zeichen, das Jesus that, da er aus Judää in Galilȧam fam.

46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.

48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.

52 Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judea into Galilee.

CHAPTER V.

2 Es ist aber zu Jerusalem beh dem Schafhause ein Teich, der heißt auf Ebräisch Bethesda, und hat fünf Hallen,

3 In welchen lagen viele Kranke, Blinde, Lahme, Dürre; die warteten, wenn sich das Wasser bewegte.

of the Jews: and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

2 Now there is at Jerusalem, by the sheep market, a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue, Bethesda, having five porches.

3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
