At the end of words the two vowels ie are separated, the i is pronounced fomewhat long, and the e dropt; as for example, plie, prie, rie, vie, &c.

But in the words of two fyllables the e is pronounced like an e mafculine; as for example,

Acier, barbier, courfier, drapier, étrier, grenier, laurier, ouvrier, potier, rofier, fermier, vivier, &c.

Accrois, boiteux, courtois, effroi, joye, loifir, roi, François (nom. propre), mémoire, noir, poisson, pourquoi, quoique, voilà, bourgeois, &c.

& dans les préfents & infinitifs des verbes de la troisième conjugaison,

Recevoir, je reçois, Dans tous les imparfaits ces deux voyelles fe prononcent comme ay en Anglois; par exemple,

Bleu, feu, jeu, peu, feul, fleur, vœux, &c. gueux, vigueur, &c. Ou.

Cette diphthongue fe prononce comme le double o Anglois, dans leur mot good; par exemple,

In the beginning of words derived from the Latin, is founded; as for example, obtenir, to obtain, &c.

It is not now written in the first fyllable of many words; as for example, febve, a bean; doubter, to doubt; debte, a debt; read and write fêve, douter, dette.

B at the end of words must not be pronounced; for example, plomb, read plon.

Of the found of C.

C followed by an a, 0, or u, has a hard found, and is pronounced as the English k; as for example,

Cachot,

Cachot, cage, canal, canard, candeur, canon; Coche, cochon, coffre, comment, compte; Culte, cuir, cure, cuve, cuivre, cuisine,

&c.

Cette même lettre, fuivie d'un e & d'un i, a le fon doux comme l's; par exemple, Ce, céder, celle, certain, cingler, &c.

Si deux c fe rencontrent dans le même mot, le premier finiffant la fyllabe, & le dernier commençant la fuivante, le premier c n'eft pas prononcé; par exemple, occurrence, lifez ocurrence.

Exceptez qu'au vieux mot occir, (pour dire tuer) & dans accident, &c. les deux c fe prononcent.

C lié avec t ne fe prononce pas; par exemple, lait, lifez lait; lift, lifez, lit. On les écrit même ainfi aujourd'hui.

C eft prononcé dans la fyllabe, quand commence la fuivante; par exemple, action, actif, &c.

Ch François fe prononce comme Anglois; par exemple, changer, lifez haan

This fame letter has a foft found like an s, if followed by an e, or ani; as for example, ceffe, ceux; Cime, ciel, cilice,

If two c come together in the fame word, the first ending the fyllable, and the last beginning the next, the first c is not founded; as for example, occurrence, occurrence, read

Except in the old word oecir (that is tuer) to kill, and in accident, accident, &c. where the two care pronounced.

C joined with t is not pronounced; as for example, laict, milk, read lait; li&t, bed, read lit. Nay they are now written fo.

C is founded in a fyllable, when t begins the next; as for example, action, actif, &c.

Ch in French is pronounced like fh in English; as for example, changer, to change, read fhaanger.

Except these words, archange, chaos, choeur, pafchal, écho, &c. which you must pronounce arkange, &c.

Ch at the end of the laft fyllable of our words is not pronounced; as for example, almanach, read almana, &c.
