A Confonant cannot make found but with another Lette for example, В, as if it w written Bé.

A Liquid is a Letter t bath a smooth found. We have four. L, M, N, R.

Of the difference betwe Confonants and Liquid

The Second Leffon.

A Confonant at the end of word is dropt, if anot Confonant, or Liquid, begins word following; for examp vous parlez bien.

We must pronounce, vou pi lé bien.

When there are two or th Confonants at the end of a wo the following word beginn with a Confonant, we only p nounce the firft, and often pronounce none of them; as example,

Il eft fort,

De grands Seigneurs,

Exempts d'impots,

Lifez,

Vingt Soldats,

Read,

Arts méchaniques,

Qua

[blocks in formation]

If a Liquid and two Confo nants meet at the end of a word in the fame fyllable, we muft only pronounce the Liquid; for example, Corps read Gor.

A Liquid is not dropt commonly at the end of words, although a Confonant begins thofe which follow; as for example, c'eft un bon prince.

The Liquid N is nevertheless dropt, when it comes in the third perfon of the plural of Verbs, if the vowel e is before it in the fame fyllable; as for example, ils parlent, we must ponounce I parle, in profe; and in verfe, I parlet, when a vowel follows..

We write it only to diflin guifh the Plural Number from. the Singular.

We do not always pronounce the Liquid at the end of words; for the R'is not founded in the Infinitive Mood of the first and fecond Conjugation; as for example, je ne faurois parler François, one must pronounce je ne fauroi parlé François.

Though a Vowel follows, the A 3
