WILLIAM BEVERIDGE, D.D.
LORD BISHOP OF ST. ASAPH.
In the church I had rather speak five words with myunderstanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. 1 Cor. xiv. 19.
And ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Eph. vi. 4.
A NEW EDITION.
This little book is nothing more than a reprint of Bishop Beveridge's Explanation of the Church Catechism. It was written by the Author expressly for the use of his Clergy, and no apology can be necessary for a new edition of it. But the effort which the Church is now generally making to improve the Education of the Middle Classes, and to train their children in her own principles, has suggested to the Editor the propriety and usefulness of reprinting the work at this time. The Explanation is at once full and clear; and has been selected from many as the best adapted to facilitate the practice of Catechetical teaching.
