“Polly," the old-fashioned girl, is an embodiment of what a young lady should be who is brought up under the care of well-to-do-parents in the country. “Fanny” is a picture of a young lads, educated in a similar way in the city; and the moral of the story lies in the difference between the two lives.

“ Tom,” the hero-well, it is enough to say of him that all the girls will be as desperately fas. cinated with him as with the “jolly” Laurie of " Little Women.”
