"The Hungarian Reformed Church has dropped completely out of the reckoning of her sister churches, yet not one of them all (except perhaps the Vaudois), made a longer or a braver fight for the faith once delivered to the saints." EPISODES OF FICTION;

OR,

Choice Stories from the Great Novelists.

WITH BIOGRAPHICAL INTRODUCtions.

Numerous Original Illustrations by Sam Bough, Clark Stanton, J. McWhirter, J. D. Brown, L. Huard, F. Barnard, R. P. Leitch, Harrison Weir, etc. etc.

This volume contains a series of Choice Extracts from the best works of some of the most popular English Novelists; extracts selected with the view of illustrating the general character of their style, and presenting the reader with an opportunity of comparing the present school of fiction with the past. As far as possible, the editor has sought in each Selection an episode of the story from which it is taken, and his object has been to furnish the reader with material for an hour or two of pleasant reading, and the artist with suitable subjects for the exercise of his pencil.

The engraving of the illustrations has been executed by the most skilful artists, and the printing done in the best manner, on superfine calendered paper, made expressly for the work in fact no expense has been spared to make it one of the best books of the season.

One vol., small quarto, rich morocco, cloth gilt, $ 600.

Gems of Modern Art,

ENGRAVED IN LINE BY EMINENT ARTISTS,

T. ADDISON RICHARDS, Corresponding Secretary of the National Academy of Design, and Professor of Art in the University of the City of New York.

This magnificent work, it is anticipated, will be one of the most elegant of its kind ever issued from the press of this country, the highest style of artistic and mechanical excellence having been engaged in its preparation. The illustrations, which will exceed seventy in number, consist of large, full-page plates, engraved on steel, by the most eminent artists of the day, after celebrated works by Landseer, Turner, Leslie, Newton, Frith, Phillip, Webster, Ward, Pickersgill, Goodall, Sant, Wilkie, Stothard, Bonington, Holman Hunt, Gustave Doré, Leys, Dyckman, and other distinguished painters, chiefly of the English, French, and Belgian schools.

The work will be printed on the finest paper, and elegantly bound in morocco from ornamental designs, made expressly for the purpose. It will form an elegant volume de luxe for the parlor, and for a Holiday Gift.

In one large quarto vol., Turkey morocco, extra, $30 00.
