Thrice happy Britain: Favourite of Heav'n! To whom th' Almighty's righteous Hand has giv'n

A Queen, from Ages rolling down defign'd, To break our Chains, and blefs undone Mankind.

She was that Godlike Boon referv'd in Store, When e'er he should Nassau to Heav'n restore.

And now impatient to discharge Her Truft, She bids the Sword fhake off its flavifh Ruft Each Warlike Inftrument obeys Her Will, As You, my Lord, command to fave, or kill. O'er all the Confines of the Chriftian World, As Lignt'ning fwift, Her dread Commands are hurl'd.

Three mighty People rais'd from fad Diftrefs,
The Po, the Danube, and the Rhine confefs:
But where she does a nea rer Friendship own,
She there in Plenty pours her Bleffings down.
Replete with Joy, the grateful Dutch fhall tell,
How Antwarp, Bruffels, mighty Menin fell:
Those Towns which late,like an impending
Storm,

Did all the Neigb'ring Provinces alarm,
Do now their Peace, their Liberty confirm.

Oft have Batavia's Sons our Queens implor'd, As oft have known their finking State reftor'd, When lab' ring under Alva's heavy Yoke. Eliza freed them, and their Bondage broke :

Again preferv'd by

IV A's Arms they rife, And vanquish'd France forfakes the Glorious Prize.

In vain had Industry inlarg'd that Land, Which Nature gave with a Penurious Hand; In vain all Arts they 'gainst the Waves explore, Should Tyranny Infult their wretched Shore. Crown'd with Succefs, to curb the Seas they ftrive,

But can no Limits to Ambition give.

Nor fhall Batavia feel alone that Influence, Which ANNA does by Churchill's Hand difpence :

Europe and all her grateful Sons fhall tell, By what Illuftrious Chief proud Gallia fell; How great her Danger, fudden her Relief, Britania's Glory, and the Tyrant's Grief.

Naked and bound Andromada thus lay, To the Sea's fouleft Monster meant a Prey, Nor Tears nor Pray'rs defer the Fatal Day. See! the Devourer from a far appears, And his huge Creft above the Billows rears; To either Shore the frighten'd Ocean flies, And far above their Brim the Surges rife. Look down, O Ammon! fee the wretched Maid; Relent, ye Pow'rs, and fend a Godlike Aid; Our Vows are heard, the Gods a Hero give, And the releas'd Andromeda fhall live.

A Ladies Vifit at a Country Seat.

By another Hand.

What light is this whose chearful Pow'r

invades

Our Captiv'd Senfe, and brightens darkest Shades,

Makes the Brown Face of Sullen Nature Gay, Extends Delight, and doubles lefs'ning Day? Whence comes this Wonder but from Conqu❜ring Eyes?

Sure Beauty's Sun that Pleafing Flame fupplies.

Loe! 'tis Belinda Here! What Pomp fhe bears!
Loves in her Form, and Graces in Her Airs.
See! where She looks officious Cupid ftands,
And points his Arrows,and confirms his Bands!
Hark! While She fpeaks what melting foft-
nefs Reigns?

Defcending Mufes warble in Her Strains.
See! where She Steps, methinks the gladfom
Earth

Renews its Verdure, and contributes Mirth,

There

There Spring the Lillies, here the Rofes

Bloom,

Rais'd by her Feet, and by her Cheeks o'er

come.

Obfequious Trees unwonted rev'rence pay, And with Tops bow'd falute the Golden Ray; Mov'd with the gentle breezes of her Voice, E'en Leaves in quav'ring Harmony rejoyce. Joy above All the grateful Vine difplays, Breaks from reftraint, and Her each breath obeys,

Courting her Hand,and trembling for her tafte With ready Clufters, and refpectful hafte. Now longer watch the feather'd Rangers keep,

Sufpend their Motion, and refuse their Sleep; The lift'ning learners fit all pearch'd around, And catch improvement from her Charming Sound.

The Herds as animated while fhe stays, Attend with transport, and confent to gaze; Tow'rds Her they bend, and with unusual cries

Report their Paffion, and confefs Surprize. The finny Race, as touch'd with fond defire, Leap to behold, and drink in filent Fire; What Prodigies to this Fair cause we owe! She Shines in Sable, They in Water glow. Preffing and Wondring, loe! the Shepherds

run,

With Perfian Zeal adore the British Sun,

Leave their Lov'd Labours to regard her Rays,

And polish their rough accents with her Praise.

So Charm'd, the Goddess fprung from Silver Waves,

And made the World ambitious to be Slaves; Such Glories fported in her eafie Mien,

She warm'd when abfent, and enflam'd when feen;

Her Glance, like yours,did rudeft wilds prefer,
Defarts, eclipfing Courts, adorn'd by her;
So the Saturnian Off-fpring daign'd to view
Mortal Aboads, and scatter'd where She flew
Bleffings unequal'd, till your Beams impart
Charms to the Sight, and Raptures to the
Heart;

Well may those gifts your double Pow'r improve,

You look a Venus, and a Ceres move.

Like Jove you ftoop from your Exalted Seat,
That Spot uncurft of Paradise compleat,
To raise a low retirement, hid from Fame,
Unknown to all Perfection till you came;
Whofe humble owner fails in Homage
due,
Wanting Reception, not Regard for you;
Thus here difpencing, you the God out-do,
Create a Shrine, and fix an Image too;
The Heart you confecrate, where you appear,
And stamp your Form, the Brightest Object

there.
