"WHO BREAKS-PAYS."

THE CRITICS AGREE.

"We have seldom found a story possessing such deep, absorbing, and well sustained interest, combined with such apparent reality of incident, delicacy in the perception and delineation of character, and such sympathetic analysis of emotion, that it assumes throughout more the air of a true history than a mere work of fiction."-Round Table.

"One of the most interesting stories we have ever read. It is a love tale, but most unlike the trashy stuff published as such, and worthy the reading of intellectual people."-Boston Saturday Evening Gazette.

"Who Breaks-Pays,' is a love tale, told with exquisite pathos and poetry. There is a freshness and originality about the book which give it a place among the standard works of the day."-Publishers' Circular.

JEAN INGELOW'S POEMS,

With One Hundred Illustrations.

This new edition, with excellent illustrations from designs by various artists, executed on wood by the Brothers Dalziel, will be a favorite with the public The poems of Miss Ingelow cannot be read without profit as well as pleasure. They touch and refine the heart; they are thoroughly intelligible in the beautiful simplicity of their diction; unerringly true to nature, and invariably healthy in sentiment. Such works need no illustration, yet it is agreeable to see, as we do here, how readily one artist interprets the meaning of another. — London

GRISET'S GROTESQUES;

OR, JOKES ON THE WOOD. WITH RHYMES BY TOM HOOD.

Collected and Arranged by Miss EMILY V. MASON.

These Poems, the offspring of Southern Hearts, sung by Southern Firesides and Southern Camp-fires, are affectionately inscribed TO THE SOUTHERN SOLDIERS, by one who admired their Heroism, Sympathized with their Successes, Mourned their Sufferings, and Shared their Privations.

In the beginning of the war, I conceived the design of collecting and preserving the various War Poems which (born of the excited state of the public mind) then inundated our newspapers.

Travelling since the war through many portions of the South, I have heard everywhere the wish expressed, that these Poems should be collected and published in a form so cheap as to be accessible to all. This desire I have endeavored to fulfil. I have another design-to aid by its sale the Education of the Daughters of our desolate land; to fit a certain number for Teachers, that they may take to their homes and spread amongst the different Southern States the knowledge of those accom

plishments which else may be denied them.

I appeal to all good people to aid me in this effort. Many of these children are the orphans of soldiers, from whom they
