THE ART JOURNAL:

AHN'S NEW, PRACTICAL, AND EASY

METHOD OF LEARNING
The German Language,

With a Pronunciation, numerous Corrections, Additions,
and a Remodelling of the whole of the Exercises and
Reading Lessons in the Practical Part. By J. C. OEHL-
SCHLAGER. Octavo. 1st Course: The Practical Part,

A RECORD OF THE FINE ARTS, ARTS IN- bound, 60 ets. 2d Course: Theoretical Part, bound,

DUSTRIAL, AND THE ARTS OF DESIGN

AND MANUFACTURES.

The Universal Exhibition, Paris, 1867.

40 cts. Both parts bound together, $1 00.

This is the best edition of Ahn's Method yet issned. Aside from the other merits, a new and important feature of this publication is the introduction of German Writing in the Exercises as well as in the Reader. Many persons who read a German author with ease are obliged to employ somebody to read letters to them because they are unacquainted with German writing. The introduction of whole pieces printed in written characters will certainly obviate this difficulty.

The superiority of this edition over others is so obvious that, wherever it comes under the eyes of a discriminating teacher, its introduction into his classes is certain.

childhood, by the simplification of every difficulty, thus avoiding the obstacles before which the most diligent pupils so frequently draw back.

The little book is printed in large type, and German Current Hand Writing Exercises are copiously introduced.

The proprietors of the ART JOURNAL announce their intention to issue, during the year 1867, an ILLUSTRATED CATALOGUE of the principal objects NEW YORK.

FORMING A SUPPLEMENT TO BRYAN'S DICTIONARY OF PAINTERS
AND ENGRAVErs as Edited BY GEORGE STANLY.

By HENRY OTTLEY.

Imp. 8vo. Cloth, $4 50.

Several years having elapsed since the publication of the last edition of "Bryan's Dictionary of Painters and Engravers," it has been generally acknowledged that the changes which have occurred in the artist world, both by the decease of many eminent men, and by the accession of a still more numerous phalanx of rising practitioners of widely recognized pretensions, were such as to render an appendix to that very useful work a desideratum to the artist, collector, and connoisseur. The very creditable manner in which the task has been performed by Mr. Ottley leaves nothing further to be desired.
