A DIAMOND EDITION OF

THACKERAY'S WORKS.

Uniform with the Diamond Edition of Dickens. With
12 Illustrations on Wood, and a Steel Portrait of
the Author. In monthly volumes, at $1 50
per volume.

"I think no commentator on his writings has yet found the comparison that suits him, the terms which rightly characterize his talent. They say he is like Fielding; they talk of his wit, humor, comic powers. He resembles Fielding as an eagle does a vulture; Fielding could stoop on carrion, but Thackeray never does. His wit is bright, his humor attractive; but both bear the same relation to his serious genius that the mere lambent sheet-lightning, playing under the edge of a summer cloud, does to the electric death-spark hid in its womb."-CURRER BELL, author of "Jane Eyre," &c.

THOMAS NELSON & SONS,

137 Grand Street, New York.

With a Pronunciation, numerous Corrections, Additions,

and a Remodelling of the whole of the Exercises and Reading Lessons in the Practical Part. By J. C. OEHL

SCHLAGER. Octavo. 1st Course: The Practical Part, bound, 60 cts. 2d Course Theoretical Part, bound, 40 cts. Both parts bound together, $1 00.

This is the best edition of Ahn's Method yet issued.

Aside from the other merits, a new and important feature of

this publication is the introduction of German Writing in the Exercises as well as in the Reader. Many persons who read a German author with ease are obliged to employ somebody to read letters to them because they are unacquainted with German writing. The introduction of whole pieces printed in written characters will certainly obviate this difficulty.

The superiority of this edition over others is so obvious that, wherever it comes under the eyes of a discriminating teacher, its introduction into his classes is certain.

Rudiments of the German Language.

EXERCISES IN PRONOUNCING, SPELLING, AND TRANSLATING By Dr. F. AHN, author of the "New Method of Learning the Ger man Language." American edition, improved and enlarged.

In these "Rudiments" the Elements of the German Language will be found reduced to their utmost simplicity. The Lessons have been, as far as possible, brought down to the capacity of childhood, by the simplification of every difficulty, thus avoiding the obstacles before which the most diligent pupils so frequently draw back.

The little book is printed in large type, and German Current Hand Writing Exercises are copiously introduced.
