L E T T E R I. WHEN the Inhabitants of any City, or
Country have Reason to apprebend the Danger of publick Calamities, is sewn. P. 3, 4.
Some Tokens of the divine Anger noted, viz.
1. The Mortality, which through several Years destroyed the Cattle., p. 43, 5;
2. The Earthquakes, which lately happened in our INand. p. 5, 6.
These Calamities are the Productions of the almighty Power of God, and happens only when, and where be pleafes. p. 6. No Astronomer, no Philosopher can tell when, or where the righteous God will shake terribly the Earth, and raise those mighty Convulsions in it, which overthrow Cities, and often Swallow in Multitudes of People. p. 6.
The divine Power is always Âîting, and some Things, which appear to be the immediate Effeet of its Agency, are specified. p. 7.
Famines, and Pestilences are Manifestations of the divine Anger. p. 7.
The Day of the Lord's Visitation for Sin, is a difmal Time.. p. 8.
Yet there is no Ground for Despair, but Room to hope for Mercy, and Pardon. p. 9.
Some Sorts of Persons are particularly threatned with Punishments in the Day of God's Visitation for Sin, viz.
PROPER FOR THE
Consideration of all Sorts of People at all Times;
more especially, whenever in danger of PUBLIC CALAMITIES: Collected out of the Holy Scriptures ; shewing the Events, which fome Persons have Reason to fear; and those for which others have Ground to hope.
Whereunto is added a LETTER, proving, that the pub
lic Reading the Holy Scriptures on the Lord's-Days is an Ordinance of divine Appointment, for the spiritual Benefit of all Sorts of Hearers, and is Part of that public Worship which God requires from his People.
All intended for promoting Piety and the Consolation of serious
Christians of every Denomination, when under Affliction, ei. ther of a temporal or fpiritual Kind, frequent in the common Course of Life; and likewise for their Comfort in Times of public Calamities.
