MACMILLAN FRENCH SERIES UNDER THE GENERAL EDITORSHIP OF PROFESSOR HUGO P. THIEME OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN Michelet SPONDENCE. MARRAINE DE GUERRE . EXERCICES FRANÇAIS ORAUX ET ÉCRITS: COURS PRÉPARATOIRE PREMIÈRE PARTIE DEUXIÈME PARTIE Pargment ORAUX ET ÉCRITS ÉTUDE PRATIQUE DE LA GRAMMAIRE, FORMATION THE present volume is intended for French classes of the second year for which the First Part of the Exercices Français is too difficult. It differs from that book in the following features: 1. The Texts, which have been selected with great care from the best French readers, are not given in their original form, but are simplified. 2. The Exercises, while as varied and as interesting as the others, instead of being based partly on the previously acquired knowledge of the students, are based exclusively on the material in the book. The pupil will find all the help he may reasonably be expected to need either in the grammar section to which he is referred, or in the vocabularies, or in the special help given at the end of certain exercises. The sentences of the exercises are much shorter and simpler and involve a more limited vocabulary. 3. The Grammar is complete and more simply stated. The sections which the learner will actually need while working through the book are indicated in each lesson; the others are intended mainly for reference. 4. The outlines for Free Composition are more detailed and instead of being given in the form of suggestions are presented as questions. This scheme has been found preferable to the other as it does not allow the student to use any sentence without paraphrasing it. 5. The Compositions, which are to be found in each sixth lesson beginning with the ninth, are based on the texts and aim to provide material for grammar review and idiomatic constructions. |
