fay. I am ready to admit them fpecially; that is, whether they were in this Point on Mofes's Side or theirs. I have been a little tedious in tracing the Babylonians and Chaldeans, and extracting this Evidence, and posted over many other Things, because by proving that they worshiped the Power of the Air, I have got Antiquity on Mofes's Side, and divided the two Families of the Imaginers; nay, fet the Devil against himfelf: They fet up the Powers God ufed and established at the Formation, to prove that he did not govern or controul the World: These set up an imaginary oppofite Power, to the fame or a worfe End. And I have an Opportunity to pleasure others, by fhewing the Difference; and that the ancient Heathens were not fuch ftupid Fools as they have been reprefented; they did not confide in Blocks, nor were they fuch as have been lately; they never were fo mad as to dream of Chance, or regular Properties, in infenfible folid Matter: The material Power in this Fluid, which could give them Victuals, muft move the Light, move the Globes, raife Vapour for Rain and Springs, move the Atoms of Vegetable Matter, and form them in Vegetables, and perform all the

Opera

Operations in inanimate Matter; form Creatures and perform all the Operations in them; and that material Power which could give them Strength, and Health, muft perform the Motions and Operations in their Bodies; and this they faw it did mechanically. And the Scripture fays plainly, that departing from Revelation, and this great Knowledge, mifled them: But they were not against a God, but miftaken in their God; they attributed to this wrong Object, over and above the material Power, as far as we can fee, nearly the fame Power as we do to the true God; they thought there was a Power in it able to foretel Events, able to underftand and influence the Minds of Men, and to deliver them from evil Accidents, from the Sword, and from Enemies; and to reward those who worshiped and confided in it in this Life; and able to do fomething for the Dead; no doubt, to give them what in their Notion was Happiness ; and fo on the contrary. And they did not abfolutely deny the Exiftence of the true God, but rather left him nothing to do. And I hope for fome farther Service from this Evidence in many other Points; firft, as the Imaginers, with all their joint

Forces,

give in Evidence, Part of their Opinions about the Eternity of Space, or the Air, or cœleftial Bodies, or that they were before the Time of Mofes's Creation they muft and shall take it, that the Air did every thing, and that destroys their present Syftem of Projection and Attraction: Let them give up which they will, they shall not produce both. Nay, if they have brought, or fhall bring any hear-fay Evidence, or Opinions of People fince, they must admit all the Hear-fays and Opinions of thofe People, against any Article they have advanced, or shall advance'; and I must take the Liberty of examining their prefent Scriptures, writ by their Secretaries and Confederates, which were and are their real Intentions, by thefe and fome other Rules, which I hope will shorten the Work.

The last End of writing this, is to fhew fome, who thought it not Mofes's Bufinefs to meddle with natural Philofophy, that every one did not understand what was Mofes's Bufinefs, nor what was and is really his own Business.

FINIS.
