DIED, at the residence of his father, in New York, Nov. 25th, 1867, HUGH MULHOLLAND, son and last of the family of John and Mary Mulholland, aged 26 years, 2 months and 9 days.

He recognized in early life his baptismal obligations, by a public profession. of the name of Jesus Christ. He was an earnest and diligent laborer in the Sabbath school till the progress of disease admonished him to retire. He suffered much and patiently till the Lord was pleased to call him home to abide with him forever.

THEOLOGICAL INDEX; References to the principal works in every department of Religious Literature, embracing nearly seventy thousand citations, alphabetically arranged under two thousand heads. By Howard Malcom, D. D., LL.D. Boston: Gould & Lincoln, 59 Washington street. London: Trübner & Co., 60 Paternoster Row. 1868. 8vo. pp. 487.

A great part of learning consists in knowing the proper books to consult for information on any given topic. To furnish this knowledge is the design of Dr. Malcom's elaborate and carefully prepared volume. The book is sui generis, and fills a place entirely unoccupied up till the time of its publication. The student of the Bible will find it a valuable assistant. It presents at a single glance the literature of almost every subject with which he has to deal.

ANNUAL OF SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY; or, Year Book of Facts in Science and Art for 1868. Edited by Samuel Kneeland, A. M., M. D. Same publishers. 12mo. pp. 331.

Every reader of books knows the character of the series of which this volume is the issue for the current year. It is enough to say that to those who desire to keep pace with the progress of science and art, the "Annual" of Gould & Lincoln is indispensable.

FRIENDLY PARTING.

THE Rev. Samuel Sterritt having given intimation to the people of his charge that a call had been made upon him by the congregation of Cedarville, in the Presbytery of the Lakes, which it was his desire to accept, and thus to be transferred to that place of labor, both branches of his congregation held farewell meetings, at which the most cordial feelings were expressed between the pastor and the people. And while the people were very sorry to part with a pastor who had had the oversight of them for twenty years, had baptized nearly all of their children, had preached to them the faithful gospel, and was endeared to them by many other considerations, yet inasmuch as it was his desire to remove to that new field of labor to which he had been called, they yielded to his wishes in the case, and as a testimonial of their regard for him personally, and of their appreciation of his labors. among them, and of their earnest desire for his future usefulness and comfort, they made a present to him of more than one hundred dollars.
