The affinity of the Russian and Servian langua ges, and the continuance of the ancient Slavic in the Church Service, have so modified the Bulgarian language that there is not a uniformity of usage among the best writers. This differenee pertains more especia ly to the different methods of orthography, while the pronunciation in general remains the same. A few years since Mr. Zankoff, an educated Bulgarian published in German a Bulgarian Grammar with exercises, designed to be of the pure language as used by the people From this grammar. the materials of the following little work have been principally obtained. The grammatical part has been rearranged, selections only of the original exercises taken, and the English Vocabulary added. The whole at first was designed to be used in manuscript, but is published till something more complete shall be prepared. In studying Bulgarian much assistance can be obtained from a «Pocket Dictionary of the Russian and English languages» (Leipsic Ed.) found in Pera. C. F. M. July 10, 1858. |
