Un asunto de honor

Novelist and former journalist Arturo Pérez-Reverte Gutiérrez was born in Cartagena, Spain on November 25, 1951. He started his journalistic career writing for the Spanish newspaper Pueblo and later for Television Espanola - the Spanish state owned television, in the role of war correspondant. He worked as a war correspondent from 1973 to1994 before becoming a full-time writer. His first novel, El húsar, which was set in the Napoleonic Wars, was published in 1986, and he is well-known internationally for his popular Captain Alatriste fiction series, which takes place in 17th-century Europe. Pérez-Reverte has been elected to the Spanish Royal Academy. Arturo Pérez-Reverte (Cartagena, España, 1951) fue reportero de guerra durante veintiún años y es autor, entre otras novelas, de El húsar, El maestro de esgrima, La tabla de Flandes, El club Dumas, Territorio Comanche, La piel del tambor, La carta esférica, La Reina del Sur, Cabo Trafalgar, El pintor de batallas, Un día de cólera y El asedio; y de la ya legendaria serie histórica Las aventuras del capitán Alatriste. Es miembro de la Real Academia Española. El éxito de sus novelas sobre las aventuras del capitán Alatriste, cuya publicación comenzó en 1996 y que ya suman siete volúmenes, constituye un acontecimiento literario sin precedentes en España. También han sido llevadas al cine con el título Alatriste, película protagonizada por Viggo Mortensen.
