PREFACE.

T

HIS Third Series of " Brighton Mission Sermons"

has been produced under circumstances of difficulty, to which it may not be out of place to refer.

Towards the end of my work here, last month, I was suddenly prostrated by a serious attack of illness, and was unable to fulfil my engagements.

Under these circumstances, my Publisher-being cut off from all communication with me-had to make the best arrangements in his power; he having already announced his intention of producing a Third Volume of Sermons, similar to the preceding ones, at the end of "the Mission," for which, had my health been spared, he would have had ample materials.

He decided on introducing two Sermons which I preached on the Saturdays of "the Mission" in villages in the neighbourhood of Brighton, to rustic audiences.

He has also introduced a Sermon to Children, which I preached on the first Sunday afternoon, at All Souls' Church. Nothing was further from my mind, at the time I delivered it, than that this Address should ever appear in print. I can but indulge the hope that it may prove useful to some of the more juvenile readers of the volume. I only wish it were better worthy of their perusal.
