BEGIN the high celestial strain, A folemn hymn of grateful Praise, Ye curling fountains, as you roll Bear it, ye winds, on all your wings, To diftant climes away, And round the wide-extended world, Take the glad burden of his name, Long let it tremble round the fpheres, Improve the harmony. While we with facred rapture fir'd, The blefs'd Creator fing; And chaunt our confecrated lays, To Heaven's Eternal King. To HYMN. THE GLORIOUS PRESENCE OF CHRIST IN HEAVEN. For a fweet infpiring ray, To animate our feeble strains, From the bright realms of endless day, The blifsful realms where Jefus reigns. There, low before his glorious throne, And with delightful worship own His fmile their bliss, their heav'n, their all. Immortal glories crown his head, He smiles, and feraphs tune their fongs, There all the fav'rites of the Lamb, O may the joy-inspiring theme, A wake our faith and warm defire. Dear Saviour, let thy Spirit feal Our interest in that blifsful place; Till death remove this mortal veil, And we behold thy lovely face, HYMN. THE JOYS OF HEAVEN. COME, Lord, and warm each languid heart, Inspire each lifeless tongue; And let the joys of heaven impart, Then to the fhining feats of bliss, Sorrow, and pain, and every care, The foul from fin for ever free, Shall mourn it's power no more; But, cloth'd in spotless purity, Redeeming love adore. There on a throne, how dazzling bright, Th' exalted Saviour shines ; And beams ineffable delight,. On all the heavenly minds! There fhall the followers of the Lamb Join in immortal songs; And endless honours to his name Lord, tune our Hearts to praife and love, Our feeble notes infpire; Till, in thy blissful courts above, We join th' angelic choir. HYMN. THE EXCELLENCY OF THE SCRIPTURES. FATHER of Mercies, in thy Word, What endless glory shines ? For ever be thy name ador'd, Here may the wretched fons of want Riches, above what earth can grant, Here the fair tree of knowledge grows, And yields a free repast, Sublimer fweets than Nature knows Invite the longing taste.
