His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Baden, animated by the desire of uniting their efforts to preserve the tranquillity of Europe against the attempts with which it may be threatened Similar Treaties of Accession were concluded between Austria, Prussia, and Russia, and the same Powers respectively, the stipulations of which were verbatim the same as those of the Treaties with Great Britain. † See Treaties of Subsidy, Page 484. under the present circumstances, and His Royal Highness having resolved, for this purpose, and in consequence of the invitation which has been made to him by their Majesties the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary and Bohemia, the Emperor of all the Russias, and His Majesty the King of Prussia, to accede to the Alliance concluded by those 4 Sovereigns on the 25th of March last, have invested with their Full Powers to arrange every thing which may relate to this object; His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Right Honourable Richard le Poer Trench, Earl of Clancarty, Viscount Dunlo, Baron Kilconnel, Privy Councillor both in Great Britain and Ireland, President of the Committee of the Privy Council for the Affairs of Trade and Plantations, Joint PostmasterGeneral, Colonel of the Galway Regiment of Militia, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, and his Plenipotentiary at the Congress of Vienna; And His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Baden, the Sieur Charles Baron de Hacke, his Minister of State directing the Department of Foreign Affairs, and Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Fidelity; and the Sieur Charles Christian Baron de Berkheim, his Minister of State directing the Home Department, Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Fidelity, of that of St. Louis of Hesse, Knight of the Royal Order of the Polar Star in Sweden; Who, after having exchanged their Full Powers, found in good and due form, have agreed on the following Articles : ART. I. His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, having engaged conjointly with their Majesties the Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary and Bohemia, the Emperor of all the Russias, and His Majesty the King of Prussia, to unite the means of their States for the purpose of maintaining, in all their integrity, the Conditions of the Treaty concluded at Paris on the 30th of May, 1814, as well as the Stipulations which shall be agreed upon and signed at the Congress of Vienna, to the end of completing the dispositions of that Treaty, and securing them against every attempt, and especially against the designs of Napoleon Buonaparte; and to direct to this effect all their efforts against him and his Partizaus, in order to put it out of his power in future to disturb the tranquillity of Europe and the general Peace; His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Baden accedes to this Alliance, and solemnly engages to unite the means of his States with those of His Britannic Majesty, and the Sovereigns his Allies, in order thus to direct, in concert and with common consent, all their efforts to the same end. II. In consequence of this Accession, His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Baden engages, on his part, to keep in the Field a Corps of 16,000 Men of all arms, which shall form part of the Grand Army, assembling on the Upper Rhine, under the command of Field Marshal Prince Schwartzenberg. The Troops of His Royal Highness shall continue united in one Corps, and shall be under the immediate command of a General named by His Royal Highness. The Landsturm shall be called out according to the exigency of the case, and is not comprized in the calculation made in the present Article, and shall only serve within the Country, and for the defence of the Interior. III. His Britannic Majesty engages, in his own name, as well as in that of their Majesties the Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary and Bohemia, the Emperor of all the Russias, and His Majesty the King of Prussia, not to lay down his arms without particularly taking into consideration the interests of His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Baden, and not to permit the political existence of the Grand Duchy to be violated. IV. When the object of the present War shall have been attained, His Britannic Majesty engages, in concert with his Allies, to admit His Royal Highness the Grand Duke to bear a part in the arrangements of the future Peace, in as far as they shall concern his interests. V. Every thing relating to the subsistence, equipment and transport, to hospitals and all other objects necessary to support and facilitate the movements of the Troops, and the operations of the War, shall be regulated by a Particular Convention. VI. The present Treaty shall be ratified, and the Ratifications shall be exchanged within the space of 6 weeks, or sooner if possible. In faith of which, the respective Plenipotentiaries have signed the present Treaty, and have affixed thereto the Seals of their Arms. His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and His Majesty the King of Bavaria, animated with the desire of uniting their efforts to guarantee the tranquillity of Europe against every interruption by which it may be menaced under the present circumstances, and His Majesty the King of Bavaria having determined for this purpose, and in consequence of the invitation which has been made to Him by their Majesties the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Emperor of Austria, the Emperor of all the Russias, and the King of Prussia, to accede to the Treaty of Alliance concluded the 25th of March last, their Majesties have named, in order to arrange whatever may be connected with this object; His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Right Honourable Richard Le Poer Trench, Earl of Clancarty, Viscount Dunlo, Baron Kilconnel, one of His Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council in Great Britain and also in Ireland, President of the Board of Trade and Plantations, Joint PostmasterGeneral of Great Britain, Colonel of the Galway Regiment of Militia, and one of His Majesty's Plenipotentiaries at the Congress; And His Majesty the King of Bavaria, Charles Philip Frince de Wrede, Field Marshal, Privy Councillor of His Bavarian Majesty, Knight of the Order of St. Hubert, Grand Cross of that of Maximilian Joseph, of the Civil Order of Merit, Commander of the Military Order of Maria Theresa, Grand Cross of the Imperial Order of Leopold, Knight of the Order of St. Andrew, of the Second Class of St. George, and of St. Alexander Newski of Russia, of the Black and also Red Eagle of Prussia, Great Officer of the French Legion of Honour, Grand Cross of the Civil Order of Merit of Hesse Darmstadt; Who, after having exchanged their Full Powers, found in good and due form, have agreed on the following Articles: ART. I. His Majesty the King of Bavaria accedes to all the Stipulations of the Treaty of Vienna of the 25th of March, as here. after inserted, with the modifications mutually agreed upon by the IIIrd Article of the present Convention. In consequence of this Accession, His Majesty the King of Great Britain and Ireland engages to consider all the Stipulations of the above Treaty as equally binding towards His Majesty the King of Bavaria, which thereby become completely reciprocal. Above all, the High Contracting Parties engage not to lay down their arms, but with common consent. His Majesty the King of Bavaria, for this purpose, reserves to himself the right of accrediting a Minister to the Grand Head-Quarters. III. His Majesty the King of Bavaria engages on his side to bring into the field an Army of 60,000 men, of whom 8,500 shall be Cavalry, with a proper proportion of Artillery, without counting his garrisons, and to employ them actively and in concert against the Common Enemy. In the event of His Majesty's furnishing during the war, Battering train, it is agreed that he shall be proportionably remunerated. IV. The present Treaty shall be ratified, and the Ratifications exchanged in 2 months, or sooner, if possible. His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, and His Majesty the King of Denmark, observing with mutual satisfaction, that the difficulties which had hitherto prevented His Danish Majesty from uniting his efforts to those of their Majesties the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Emperor of Austria, the Emperor of all the Russias, and the King of Prussia, for the maintenance of the tranquillity of Europe, are now removed, and having in consequence resolved to agree upon a Treaty of Accession to the Treaty of Alliance, concluded between the said Sovereigns at Vienna on the 25th March last, their Majesties abovenamed have appointed Plenipotentiaries to settle every thing relating to this object, namely: His Majesty the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, the Right Honourable Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh, Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, one of His said |
