26 Und da sie den Lobgesang gesprochen hatten, gingen sie hinaus an den Dehlberg.

27 Und Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Ihr werdet euch in dieser Nacht alle an mir ärgern. Denn es stehet geschrieben: Ich werde den Hirten schlagen, und die Schafe werden sich zerstreu

en.

28 Aber nachdem ich auferstehe, will ich vor euch hingehen in Galiläam. 29 Petrus aber sagte zu ihm: Und wenn sie sich alle ärgerten, so wollte doch ich mich nicht ärgern.

30 Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: Wahrlich, ich sage dir, heute in dieser Nacht. ehe denn der Hahn zwehmal krähet, wirst du mich dreymal verleugnen.

31 Er aber redete noch weiter: Ja wenn ich auch mit dir sterben müßte, wollte ich dich nicht verleugnen. Defselbigen gleichen sagten sie alle.

32 Und sie kamen zu dem Hofe, mit Namen Gethsemane. Und er sprach zu seinen Jüngern: Setzet euch hier, bis ich hingehe, und bete.

33 Und nahm zu sich Petrum und Jakobum, und Johannem, und an zu zittern und zu zagen.

34 Und sprach zu ihnen: Meine Seele ist betrübt bis an den Tod! enthaltet euch hier, und wachet.

35 und ging ein wenig fürbaß, fiel auf die Erde, und betete, daß, so es möglich wäre, die Stunde vorüber ginge.

36 Und sprach: Abba, mein Vater, es ist dir alles möglich, überhebe mich dieses Kelchs; doch nicht was ich will, sondern was du willst.

37 Und fam, und fand sie schlafend. Und sprach zu Petro: Simon, schläfft du? Vermöchtest du nicht eine Stunde zu wachen?

26 T And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

27 And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

28 But after that I am risen, I will go before you into Galilee. 29 But Peter said unto him, Although all shall be offended, yet will not I.

30 And Jesus saith unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice.

31 But he spake the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said they all.

32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.

33 And he taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;

34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless, not what I will, but what thou wilt.

37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?

truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.

39 und ging wieder hin, und betete, und sprach dieselbigen Worte.

40 Und fam wieder, und fand sie abermal schlafend; denn ihre Augen waren voll Schlafs, und wußten nicht, was sie ihm antworteten.

41 Und er kam zum dritten Male, und sprach zu ihnen: Ach wollt ihr nun schlafen und ruhen? Es ist genug, die Stunde ist gekommen. Siche, des Menschen Sohn wird überantwortet in der Sünder Hände.

42 Etchet auf, lasset uns gehen; siche, der mich verräth, ist nahe.

43 Und alsobald, da er noch redete, kam herzu Judas, der Zwölfen einer, und eine große Schaar mit ihm, mit Schwertern und mit Stangen, von den Hohenpriestern, und Schriftgelehrten und Aeltesten.

44 Und der Verräther hatte ihnen ein Zeichen gegeben, und gesagt: Welchen ich küssen werde, der ist es; den greifet, und führet ihn gewiß.

45 Und da er tam, trat er bald zu ihm, und sprach zu ihm: Rabbi, Rabbi; und küssete ihn.

46 Die aber legten ihre Hände an ihn, und griffen ihn.

47 Einer aber von denen, die dabeh standen, zog sein Schwert aus, und schlug des Hohenpriesters Knecht, und hieb ihm ein Ohr ab.

48 Und Jesus antwortete, und sprach zu ihnen: Ihr seyd ausgegangen, als zu einem Mörder, mit Schwertern und mit Stangen, mich zu fangen.

49 Ich bin täglich bey euch im Tempel gewesen, und habe gelehret, und ihr habt mich nicht gegriffen. Aber auf daß die Schrift erfüllet werde. 50 Und die Jünger verließen ihn alle, und flohen.

51 Und es war ein Jüngling, der folgte ihm nach, der war mit Leinwand befleidet auf der bloßen Haut; und die Jünglinge griffen ihn.

52 Er aber ließ die Leinwand fahren, und floh bloß von ihnen.

53 Und sie führeten Jesum zu dem

39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spake the same words. 40 And when he returned, he found them asleep again, (for their eyes were heavy;) neither wist they what to answer him.

41 And he cometh the third time, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

42 Rise up, let us go; lo, he that betrayeth me is at hand.

43 And immediately while he yet spake, cometh Judas, one of the twelve, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders.

44 And he that betrayed him, had given them a token, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him, and lead him away safely.

45 And as soon as he was come, he goeth straightway to him, and saith, Master, Master; and kissed

him.

46 T And they laid their hands on him, and took him.

47 And one of them that stood by, drew a sword, and smote a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

48 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Are ye come out as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

49 I was daily with you in the temple, teaching, and ye took me not but the scriptures must be

fulfilled.

50 And they all forsook him and fled.

51 And there followed him a certain young man, having a linen cloth cast about his naked body; and the young men laid hold on him.

52 And he left the linen cloth, and fled from them naked. 53

And they led Jesus away

Hohenpriester, dahin zusammen gekom men waren alle Hohenpriester, und Aeltesten, und Schriftgelehrten.

54 Petrus aber folgte ihm nach von ferne, bis hinein in des Hohenpriesters Ballast; und er war da, und saß ben den Knechten, und wärmete sich beh dem Lichte.

55 Aber die Hohenpriester und der ganze Rath fuchten Zeugniß wider Jefum, auf daß sie ihn zum Tode brächten; und fanden nichts.

56 Viele gaben falsches Zeugniß wider ihn, aber ihr Zeugniß stimmete nicht überein.

57 Und etliche standen auf, und gaben falsches Zeugniß wider ihn, und sprachen:

58 Wir haben gehöret, daß er sagte: Ich will den Tempel, der mit Händen gemacht ist, abbrechen, und in drehen Tagen einen andern bauen, der nicht mit Händen gemacht seh.

59 Aber ihr Zeugniß stimmete noch nicht überein.

60 Und der Hohepriester stand auf unter sie, und fragte Jesum, und sprach: Antwortest du nichts zu dem, das diese wider dich zeugen?

61 Er aber schwieg stille, und antwortete nichts. Da fragte ihn der Hohepriester abermal, und sprach zu ihm: Bist du Christus, der Sohn des Hochgelobten ?

62 Jesus aber sprach: Ich bins. Und ihr werdet sehen des Menschen Sohn sitzen zur rechten Hand der Kraft, und fommen mit des Himmels Wolken. 63 Da zerriß der Hohepriester seinen Rock, und sprach: Was bedürfen wir weiter Zeugen?

64 Ihr habt gehöret die Gotteslästerung; was dünket euch? Sie aber verdammeten ihn alle, daß er des Todes schuldig wäre.

65. Da fingen an etliche ihn zu verspeyen, und zu verdecken sein Angesicht, und mit Fäusten zu schlagen, und zu ihm zu sagen: Weissage uns. Und die Knechte schlugen ihm ins Angesicht.

to the high priest: and with him were assembled all the chief priests, and the elders and the scribes.

54 And Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest: and he sat with the servants, and warmed himself at

the fire.

55 And the chief priests, and all the council, sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death; and found none.

56 For many bare false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together.

57 And there arose certain, and bare false witness against him, saying,

58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

59 But neither so did their witness agree together.

60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

62 And Jesus said, I am and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

63 Then the high priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

64 Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

65 And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

66 Und Petrus war danieden im Pallaste, da kam des Hohenpriesters Mägde eine.

67 Und da sie sah Petrum sich wärmen, schauete sie ihn an, und sprach: Und du warest auch mit dem Jesu von Nazareth.

68 Er leugnete aber, und sprach: Ich kenne ihn nicht, weiß auch nicht, was du sagest. Und er ging hinaus in den Vorhof; und der Hahn krähete. 69 Und die Magd sah ihn, und hob abermal an zu sagen denen, die dabey standen: Dieser ist der einer.

70 Und er leugnete abermal. Und nach einer kleinen Weile sprachen abermal zu Petro, die dabey standen: Wahrlich, du bist der einer; denn du bist ein Galiläer, und deine Sprache lautet gleich also.

71 Er aber fing an sich zu verfluchen und zu schwören: Ich kenne den Menschen nicht, von dem ihr saget.

72 Und der Hahn krähete zum andern Mal. Da gedachte Petrus an das Wort, das Jesus zu ihm sagte: Ehe der Hahn zweymal krähet, wirft du mich dreymal verleugnen. Und er hob an zu weinen.

66 T And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest:

67 And when she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him, and said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.

68 But he denied, saying, I know not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew. 69 And a maid saw him again, and began to say to them that stood by, This is one of them.

70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them for thou art a Galilean, and thy speech agreeth thereto.

71 But he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not this man of whom ye speak.

72 And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice, thou shalt deny me thrice. And when he thought thereon, he wept.

CHAPTER XV.

ND straightway in the morn

4 Pilatus aber fragte ihn abermal, und sprach: Antwortest du nichts? Siehe, wie hart sie dich verklagen!

5 Jesus aber antwortete nichts mehr, also, daß sich auch Pilatus verwunderte.

6 Er pflegte ihnen aber auf das

2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering, said unto him, Thou sayest it.

3 And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.

4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing behold how many things they witness against thee.

5 But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled.

6 Now at that feast he released

Osterfest einen Gefangenen los zu geben, welchen sie begehreten.

7 Es war aber einer, genannt Barabbas, gefangen mit den Aufrührischen, die im Aufruhre einen Mord begangen hatten.

8 Und das Volk ging hinauf, und bat, daß er thäte, wie er pflegte.

9 Pilatus aber antwortete ihnen: Wollt ihr, daß ich euch den König der Juden los gebe?

10 Denn er wußte, daß ihn die Hohenpriester aus Neid überantwortet hatten. 11 Aber die Hohenpriester reizten das Volk, daß er ihnen viel lieber den Barabbas los gäbe.

12 Pilatus aber antwortete wiederum, und sprach zu ihnen: Was wollt ihr denn, daß ich thue dem, den ihr fchuldiget, er sey ein König der Juden? 13 Sie schrieen abermal: Kreuzige ihn!

14 Pilatus aber sprach zu ihnen : Was hat er Uebels gethan? Aber sie schrieen noch viel mehr: Kreuzige ihn!

15 Pilatus aber gedachte, dem Volke genug zu thun, und gab ihnen Barabbas los, und überantwortete ihnen Jefum, daß er gegeißelt und gekreuziget würde.

16 Die Kriegsknechte aber führeten ihn hinein in das Richthaus, und riefen zusammen die ganze Schaar;

17 Und zogen ihm einen Purpur an, und flochten eine dornene Krone, und setzten sie ihm auf;

18 Und fingen an ihn zu grüßen: Gegrüßet sehst du, der Juden König! 19 und schlugen ihm das Haupt mit dem Rohre, und verspeheten ihn, und fielen auf die Kniee, und beteten ihn an.

20 Und da ste ihn verspottet hatten, zogen sie ihm den Purpur aus, und zogen ihm seine eigenen Kleider an, und führeten ihn aus, daß sie ihn kreuzigten;

21 Und zwangen einen, der vorüber ging, mit Namen Simon von Ky

unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.

7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

8 And the multitude crying aloud, began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.

9 But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

10 (For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.) 11 But the chief priests moved the people that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.

12 And Pilate answered, and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?

13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.

14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.

15 T And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Pretorium; and they called together the whole band;

17 And they clothed him with purple, and platted a crown of thorns, and put it about his head, 18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!

19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees, worshipped him.

20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify

him.

21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming
