HE Conductors of THE ROUND THE TABLE beg to tender their cordial acknowledgments to the many friends of the paper for a handsome support, which has gone on steadily increasing until it can now be truthfully said that it is fully, fairly, and prosperously established. During the three years that have passed since the first publication of THE ROUND TABLE, it has experienced an unusually diversified career, making not only strong friends, but some bitter enemies; yet the number of the latter has ever been comparatively small; and it is hoped and believed that there are now very few who do not wish well to a journal so earnestly devoted to literary, social, and artistic progress. THE ROUND TABLE now has subscribers in every state of the Union, in Canada and other parts of our own continent, in England, Ireland, and Scotland, and in many countries of continental Europe. It goes, in fact, to the four quarters of the globe, and with nearly every issue the number which is sent abroad increases. The The home subscription list is a large and steadily augmenting one, and it contains the name of nearly every person noted in literature or eminent in professional life throughout the country. THE ROUND TABLE, therefore, addresses a highly cultivated and distinguished circle-a circumstance which, in preparing its contents, is sedulously kept in view. arrangements which have been made, and which are in progress for the NEW YEAR are such as to promise the most gratifying results. No weekly paper has ever been published in this country which has contained so much really firstrate writing, both from American and English pens, as THE ROUND TABLE will offer to its readers during the year 1867. This will, of course, involve a very large outlay; but the present position of the paper is such as to justify the engagements which its conductors have made, as well as others which they have resolved upon carrying out. The attention which THE ROUND TABLE has received, not alone from the home press, but from leading critical reviews all over the world, has gained for it a celebrity and a prestige which no other American literary paper has ever acquired; its articles and reviews are quoted to an extent hitherto unparalleled, and are regarded by the educated and refined classes with a consideration hitherto only bestowed by them upon similar publications from abroad. It is hoped now that THE ROUND TABLE has achieved a position acknowledged to be so far unique in our country, that all who are directly or indirectly interested in literature, in art, or in cognate subjects, will give their personal help, both by subscribing and inducing their friends to subscribe, towards enabling the conductors to accomplish their cherished wishes in the direction of continual improvement. THE ROUND TABLE is distinctively a National paper. It seeks to foster American literature, and to encourage rising talent in the honourable vocation of authorship. It will, therefore, give preference, when possible, to the discussion of American books, as well as to that of American art, and to home subjects generally. In order, however, to present the freshest and most interesting intelligence from London, THE ROUND TABLE has in its correspondent in that city a writer of whom the least that can be said is, that the better they are known the more will his letters be admired. Contributors of the highest position in the English literary world will also write regularly for the paper, so as to ensure for it the greatest attainable spirit and variety. Business Terms. The price of THE ROUND TABLE is Six dollars per year. The Conductors have uniformly declined to lower this price, which, considering the great cost of publication, and bearing in mind the paper and typography, as well as the character of the contents of the journal, is much cheaper than many others which charge for subscription but half the money. English Subscribers, by forwarding a Cheque for 30s. on any London Banker, will receive THE ROUND TABLE for One Year. This sum includes the American Postage. On the 6th of MARCH, 1867, will appear the FIRST NUMBER of a NEW ILLUSTRATED SERIAL, under the title of CASSIMES MAGAZINE, WEEKLY, ONE PENNY; MONTHLY, SIXPENCE. THE public taste and requirements in the way of Literature have been steadily making so great an advance, and the number of readers has been so rapidly increasing from year to year, that it becomes the duty of publishers to be constantly improving the quality of the publications which they offer for the approval of the public. In this spirit the Publishers of CASSELL'S MAGAZINE believe that the time has now arrived when they may venture to issue, for the trifling cost of One Penny Weekly, or Sixpence Monthly, a Magazine which, for the character of its contents, shall be inferior to none of its higher-priced contemporaries. In a prospectus of how it is proposed to accomplish this, the Publishers will content themselves with pointing out a few of the general distinguishing features of their new Serial, leaving it to speak for itself in detail when it makes its appearance before the public. Fiction o powerful interest will form the prominent feature of its pages, but with this will be associated Popular Articles on Topics of the Day, Striking Narratives, Biographical Memoirs, and Papers on Social Subjects, which, it is believed, will be read with interest in every family circle to which CASSELL'S MAGAZINE is destined to find its way. It will also contain short Poems by eminent writers; but the object of its Editor will be to avoid all subjects which, however acceptable to classes or individuals, are not of general interest. It will be well printed on superior toned paper, each Weekly Number consisting of Sixteen Pages crown 4to; the experience of the Publishers in their other popular works having induced them to believe that it is possible to secure for a First-class Magazine, such as it is hoped to make CASSELL'S MAGAZINE in all its departments, that widely-extended circulation which alone conid justify its publication at so low a price as ONE PENNY Weekly, or SIXPENCE Monthly.
