CAPO 2.

CHAPTER 2.

timento io ho per voi, e per quelli che sono in Laodicea, e per tutti quelli che non han veduta la mia faccia in carne;

2 Acciocchè i lor cuori sieno consolati, essendo eglino congiunti in carità, ed in tutte le ricchezze del pieno accertamento dell' intelligenza, alla conoscenza del misterio di Dio, e Padre, e di Cristo;

3 In cui son nascosti tutti i tesori della sapienza, e della conoscenza. 4 Or questo dico, acciocchè niuno v'inganni per parlare acconcio a persuadere.

5 Perciocchè, benchè di carne io sia assente, pur son con voi di spirito, rallegrandomi, e veggendo il vostro ordine, e la fermezza della vostra fede in Cristo.

6 Come dunque voi avete ricevuto il Signor Cristo Gesù, così camminate in esso ;

7 Essendo radicati, ed edificati in lui, e confermati nella fede; siccome siete stati insegnati, abbondando in essa con ringraziamento.

8 Guardate che non vi sia alcuno che vi tragga in preda per la filosofia, e vano inganno, secondo la tradizione degli uomini, secondo gli elementi del mondo, e non secondo Cristo.

9 Conciossiachè in lui abiti corporalmente tutta la pienezza della Deità.

10 E voi siete ripieni in lui, che è il capo d' ogni principato, e pode

stà;

11 Nel quale ancora siete stati circoncisi d'una circoncisione fatta senza mano, nello spogliamento del corpo de' peccati della carne, nella circoncisione di Cristo;

12 Essendo stati con lui seppelliti nel battesimo; in cui ancora siete insieme risuscitati, per la fede della virtù di Dio, che ha risuscitato lui da' morti:

13 Ed ha con lui vivificati voi, che eravate morti ne' peccati, e

2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgment of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words.

5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.

6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:

7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.

8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:

11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ :

12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of

14 Avendo cancellata l' obbligazione, che era contro a noi negli ordinamenti, la quale ci era contraria; e quella ha tolta via, avendola confitta nella croce.

15 E, avendo spogliate le podestà, e i principati, gli ha pubblicamente menati in ispettacolo, trionfando d'essi in esso.

16 Niuno adunque vi giudichi in mangiare, od in bere, o per rispetto di festa, o di calendi, o di sabati;

17 Le quali cose son ombra di quelle che doveano avvenire; ma il corpo è di Cristo.

your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of a holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

19 E non attenendosi al Capo, dal quale tutto il corpo, fornito, e ben commesso insieme per le giunture, ed i legami, prende l'accrescimento di Dio.

20 Se dunque, essendo morti con Cristo, siete sciolti dagli elementi del mondo, perchè, come se viveste nel mondo, vi s' impongono ordinamenti;

21 Non toccare, non assaggiare, non maneggiare ;

22 (Le quali cose tutte periscono per l'uso ;) secondo i comandamenti, e le dottrine degli uomini? 23 Le quali cose han bene alcuna apparenza di sapienza, in religion volontaria, ed in umiltà, e in non risparmiare il corpo in ciò che è per satollar la carne; non in onore alcuno.

19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.

20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordi

CHAPTER 3.

F ye then be risen with Christ,

sopra, dove Cristo è a sedere alla destra di Dio.

2 Pensate alle cose di sopra, non a quelle che son sopra la terra.

above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.

3 Perciocchè voi siete morti, e la vita vostra è nascosta con Cristo in Dio.

4 Quando Cristo, che è la vita vostra, apparirà, allora ancor voi apparirete con lui in gloria.

5 Mortificate adunque le vostre membra che son sopra la terra; fornicazione, immondizia, lussuria nefanda, mala concupiscenza, ed avarizia, che è idolatria.

6 Per le quali cose viene l' ira di Dio sopra i figliuoli della disubbidienza ;

7 Nelle quali già camminaste ancor voi, quando vivevate in

esse.

8 Ma ora deponete ancor voi tutte queste cose, ira, cruccio, malizia; e fuor della vostra bocca, maldicenza, e parlar disonesto.

9 Non mentite gli uni agli altri, avendo spogliato l'uomo vecchio co' suoi atti;

10 E vestito il nuovo, che si rinnuova a conoscenza, secondo l'immagine di colui che l' ha creato;

11 Dove non vi è Greco e Giudeo, circoncisione e incirconcisione; Barbaro e Scita; servo e franco; ma Cristo è ogni cosa, ed in tutti.

12 Vestitevi adunque, come eletti di Dio, santi, e diletti, di visce-re di misericordia, di benignità, d'umiltà, di mansuetudine, di pazienza.

13 Comportandovi gli uni gli altri, e perdonandovi, se alcuno ha qualche querela contro ad un altro; come Cristo ancora vi ha perdonati, fate voi altresì il simigliante.

14 E, per tutte queste cose, vestitevi di carità, che è il legame della perfezione.

15 Ed abbia la presidenza ne' cuori vostri la pace di Dio, alla quale ancora siete stati chiamati in un corpo; e siate riconoscenti.

16 La parola di Cristo abiti in voi doviziosamente, in ogni sapienza; ammaestrandovi, ed ammonendovi gli uni gli altri, con salmi, ed

4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:

7 In the which ye also walked sometime, when ye lived in them.

8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him :

11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.

15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual

17 E qualunque cosa facciate, in parola, o in opera, fate ogni cosa nel nome del Signore Gesù, rendendo grazie a Dio, e Padre, per lui.

18 Mogli, siate soggette a' mariti, come si convien nel Signore.

19 Mariti, amate le mogli, e non v' inasprite contro a loro.

20 Figliuoli, ubbidite a' padri, e madri, in ogni cosa; conciossiachè questo sia accettevole al Signore. 21 Padri, non provocate ad ira i vostri figliuoli, acciocchè non vengan meno dell' animo.

22 Servi, ubbidite in ogni cosa a quelli che son vostri signori secondo la carne; non servendo all' occhio, come per piacere agli uomini; ma in semplicità di cuore, temendo Iddio.

23 E, qualunque cosa facciate, operate d' animo, facendolo come al Signore, e non agli uomini ; 24 Sapendo che dal Signore riceverete la retribuzion dell' eredità; conciossiachè voi serviate a Cristo, il Signore.

25 Ma chi fa torto riceverà la retribuzion del torto ch' egli avrà fatto, e non vi è riguardo a qualità di persona.

CAPO 4.

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.

19 Husbands, love your. wives, and be not bitter against them. 20 Children, obey your parents in all things for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God :

23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not

2 Perseverate nell' orazione, vegliando in essa con ringraziamento; 3 Pregando insieme ancora per noi, acciocchè Iddio apra eziandio a noi la porta della parola, per annunziare il misterio di Cristo, per lo quale anche sono prigione ; 4 Acciocchè io lo manifesti, come mi convien parlare.

5 Procedete con sapienza inverso que' di fuori, ricomperando il tempo.

6 Il vostro parlare sia sempre con grazia, condito con sale; per sa

2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; 3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds:

4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.

5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time.

6 Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye

7 Tichico, il caro fratello, e fedel ministro, e mio conservo nel Signore, vi farà assapere tutto lo stato mio;

8 Il quale io ho mandato a voi a questo stesso fine, acciocchè sappia lo stato vostro, e consoli i cuori vostri ;

9 Insieme col fedele, e caro fratello Onesimo, il quale è de' vostri; essi vi faranno assa per tutte le cose di qua.

10 Aristarco, prigione meco, saluta; così ancora Marco, il cugino di Barnaba; intorno al quale avete ricevuto ordine; se viene a voi, accoglietelo;

11 E Gesù, detto Giusto, i quali son della circoncisione ; questi soli son gli operai nell' opera del regno di Dio, i quali mi sono stati di conforto.

12 Epafra, che è de' vostri, servo di Cristo, vi saluta; combattendo sempre per voi nell' orazioni, acciocchè stiate fermi, perfetti, e compiuti in tutta la volontà di Dio.

13 Perciocchè io gli rendo testimonianza, ch' egli ha un gran zelo per voi, e per quelli che sono in Laodicea, e per quelli che sono in Hierapoli.

14 II diletto Luca, il medico, e Dema, vi salutano.

15 Salutate i fratelli che sono in Laodicea, e Ninfa, e la chiesa che è in casa sua.

16 E quando quest' epistola sarà stata letta appo voi, fate che sia ancor letta nella chiesa de' Laodicesi; e che ancora voi leggiate quella che vi sarà mandata da Laodicea. 17 E dite ad Archippo: Guarda al ministerio che tu hai ricevuto nel Signore, acciocchè tu la adempi.

18 Il saluto, scritto di mano propria di me Paolo. Ricordatevi de' miei legami. La grazia sia con voi. Amen.

7 All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord : 8 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts;

9 With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.

10 Aristarchus my fellow prisoner saluteth you, and Marcus, sister's son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him ;) 11 And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellow workers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me. 12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

13 For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis.

14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.

15 Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. 16 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.

17 And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.

18 The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you. Amen.
