VI. VI. Col. ii. 17. Which are a fhadow of things to come; but the body is of Chrift.
• Mat. xxviii. 19. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Ghoft: v. 20. Teaching them to obferve all things whatfoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you, alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. 1 Cor. xi. 23. For I have received of the Lord, that which alfo I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jefus, the fame night in which he was betrayed, took bread: v. 24. And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and faid, Take, eat; this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. v. 25. After the fame manner alfo he took the cup, when he had fupped, faying, this cup is the new teftament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

CHAP. VIII. Of Christ the Mediator. T pleased God, in his eternal purpose, to choose and ordain the LORD JESUS, his only begotten Son, to be the by the law and the prophets. v. 22. Even the righteoufnefs of God which is by faith of Jefus Chrift unto all, and upon all them that believe; for there is no difference: v. 13. For all have finned, and come fhort of the glory of God; v. 30. Seeing it is one God, which fhall justify the circumcifion by faith, and uncircumcifion through faith. Pfalm xxxii. 1. Blessed is he whofe tranfgreffion is forgiven, whose fin is covered. With Rom. iv. 3. For what faith the fcripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteoufnefs. v. 6. Even as David alfo defcribeth the bleffednefs of the man unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works. v. 16. Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace, to the end the promise might be fure to all the feed, not to that only which is of the law, but to that alfo which is of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all. v. 17. (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not, as though they were. v. 23. Now it was not written for his fake alone, that it was imputed to him; v. 24. but for us alfo to whom it fhall be imputed, if we believe on him that raifed up Jefus our Lord from the dead. II. The Son of God, the fecond perfon in the Trinity, being very and eternal God, of one fubftance and equal with
the fame yesterday, and to-day, and for the houfe of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there fhall be no end.
. Eph. v. 23. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body.
I a Ifa. xlii. 1. Behold my fervant whom I uphold, mine elect, in whom my foul delighteth: I have put my spirit upon him, he fhall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. 1 Pet. i. 19. But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemith and without spot: v. 20. Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these laft times for you. John iii, 16. For God fo loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whofoever believeth in him, fhould not perish, but have everlasting life. 1 Tim. ii. 5. For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jefus.

Heb. v. 5. So alfo Chrift glorified not himself, to be made an high priest: but he that faid unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. v. 6. As he faith alfo in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchifedec.

the Father, did, when the fulness of time was come, take upon him man's naturek, with all the effential properties and common infirmities thereof, yet without fin/: being conceived by the power of the holy Ghost, in the womb of the Virgin Mary, of her substancem. So that two whole, perfect and distinct natures, the Godhead and the manhood, were infeparably joined together in one perfon, without converfion, compofition or confufion n. Which perfon is very God, and
call a nation that thou knowest not, and nations that knew not thee shall run unto thee, because of the Lord thy God, and for the holy One of Ifrael; for he hath glorified thee. 1 Cor. i. 30. But of him are ye in Christ Jefus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and fanctification, and redemption.
II. John i. 1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ▼. 14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth. 1 John v. 20. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an underftanding, that we may know him that is true: and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jefus Chrift. This is the true God, and eternal life. Phil. ii. 6. Who being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God. Gal. iv. 4. But when the fulness of the time was come, God fent forth his Son made of a woman, made under the law.
1 Heb. ii. 14. Forafmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the fame, that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is,
the devil. v. 16. For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the feed of Abraham, v. 17. Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren; that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest, in things pertaining to God; to make reconciliation for the fins of the people. Heb. iv. 15. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without fin.
m Luke i. 27. To a virgin efpoufed to a man whofe name was Jofeph, of the house of David; and the virgins name was Mary. v. 31. And behold thou fhalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a Son, and fhalt call his name Jefus. v. 35. And the angel anfwered, and faid unto her, The holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest fhall overfhadow thee; therefore alfo that holy thing which fhall be born of thee, fhall be called the Son of God. III. The Lord Jefus, in his human nature thus united to the divine, was fanctified and anointed with the holy Spirit above measurep; having in him all the treasures of wisdom and knowledgeq; in whom it pleased the Father that all fulnefs should dwell r: to the end, that being holy, harmless, undefiled, and full of grace and truth, he might be thorowly furnished to execute the office of a Mediator and furety t. Which office he took not unto himself, but was thereunto called by his Father v, who put all power and judgment into his
all, God blessed for ever. Amen. 1 Pet. iii. 18. For Chrift alfo hath once fuffered for fins, the juft for the unjuft (that he might bring us to God) being put to death in the flesh, but quickned by the Spirit. 1 Tim. iii. 16. And without controversy, great is the mystery of godlinefs: God was manifeft in the flesh, juftified in the Spirit, feen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
Rom. i. 3. Concerning his Son Jefus Christ our Lord, which was made of the feed of David, according to the flesh: v. 4. And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the Spirit of holinefs, by the refurrection from the dead. 1 Tim. ii. 5. For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jefus.
III. p Pfalm xlv. 7. Thou loveft righteoufnefs, and hateft wickednefs: therefore God, thy God hath anointed thee with the oil of gladnefs above thy fellows. John iii. 34. For he whom God hath fent, speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
Heb. vii. 26. For fuch an high priest became us, who is holy, harmlefs, undefiled, feparate from finners, and made higher than the heavens. John i. 14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.
t Acts x. 38. How God anointed Jefus of Nazareth, with the holy Ghost, and with power; who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppreffed of the devil: for God was with him. Heb. xii. 24. And to Jefus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of fprinkling, that fpeaketh better things than that of Abel. Heb. vii. 22. By fo much was Jefus made a furety of a better testament.
