If there are any people in your vicinity who read newspapers, magazines, and books-as, of course, there are,-they need a News Depot. If there is none, you can make money by establishing one, and the sooner a beginning is made the better. While it is true that demand regulates supply, as a rule it is in this business further true that the demand can be cultivated, where it has not before existed, or increased in extent, by welldirected effort. By the old-fashioned plan-now nearly obsolete in every enterprising community-he who desires a magazine or newspaper must subscribe and pay for it a long time beforehand. By the new plan, all the periodicals-whether dailies, weeklies, or monthlies-come to one man, namely, the dealer, who buys them by the number, as many copies of each number as are wanted, as fast only as they are actually issued. Buying at wholesale prices, he can retail them at the same price his customers would have to pay if they bought them over the publisher's counter, in this city, or whatever the city of their publication. He thus saves his customers an actual item of expense in postage; but, what is of more consequence to most people, he can serve them earlier than the old plan could; they pay only for what they get, and as they get it; and they are not bound to take a periodical which they find, on trial, does not please; they can stop it at any time, and try another, till suited,-the dealer regulating his orders on us accordingly. Beside, if a publication should suspend, they lose nothing by it, not having paid for it in advance.

You can commence business by ordering a quantity of papers, magazines, books, etc. (see list of prices), and exposing them for sale; or, you can procure from your neighbors the names of such publications as they would like to take, and order the current numbers for them. A beginning once made, increase is inevitable. The capital required for a beginning is small, and after that your profits will always enable you to keep pace with the increased demand. The failure of a wellmanaged news depot is a thing we never heard of. Once started, it becomes a necessity to the people, and they will never allow it to stop.

HOW TO BEGIN.

Make out your order, naming the publication's in full; enclose the price, as given in the annexed list, and send money and order to us. Give your name, and the name of post-office, county, and state, distinctly. If there is an express line that reaches your place, we send by it, unless directed to send by mail; if sent by mail, the contents of the package will be found marked plainly on the address label, so that the postmaster can see at a glance what postage to collect. You do not pay postage in advance, as single subscribers must, but you pay at the same rate, and only on receipt of your package.

PUBLICATION DAYS.

The Monthlies are usually issued between the 15th and 25th of the month preceding that on which they are dated. We forward them as soon as out. The Weeklies are issued on various days-some on every day of the week.

BACK NUMBERS.

We devote a large space in our establishment to the storage of back numbers of the monthlies and weeklies, and can usually supply any back numbers wanted.

NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES, Etc.

We send our customers specimen copies of all new papers and magazines that are issued (unless otherwise instructed), and charge thein, and continue sending them until ordered to discontinue. This enables customers to be thoroughly "posted" as to all new publications.

ABOUT ACCOUNTS, COPYING ORDERS,

Etc.

To customers ordering goods sent by express, we send a bill with each parcel. Dealers getting their supplies by mail are furnished with a WEEKLY STATEMENT of account. Should this statement not be received by a dealer when expected, he can always tell how his account stands with us by keeping copies of his orders and referring to the list of prices. This plan of copying orders will also save much confusion in getting what is wanted, as it often happens that dealers forget what they have ordered, and order the same thing again, thus getting more than they want.

Don't write your orders on small slips of paper; they are liable to get lost. Dealers need not make out a full order every time they want an alteration; make the original order for what is wanted, and afterward say, "add thus and so,' or, "cut off thus and so."

In every letter containing money, name the amount it contains.

TERMS.

Our terms are cash, unless special arrangements are made to the contrary.
