Wellcome, II, p. 112. D.S.B., I, pp. 492-493: "Bassi's outstanding and enduring contribution to the understanding of the origin of infectious disease was his demonstration of the fungus cause of the silkworm disease". Cfr. A. Pazzini, The influence of Agostino Bassi on the Evolution of Microbiology, in: "Scientia Medica Italica", 3, 1954, pp. 187-195).
