Dr. Jack Cottrell is one of my favorite authors. His writing is easy to read, full of Scripture, and he uses sound logic. I also appreciate that Dr. Cottrell is willing to wrestle with doctrines that many perceive to be sound but Dr. Cottrell is willing to place all teachings under the authority of the Bible. That I appreciate greatly.

In this book, Dr. Cottrell covers systematic theology from the doctrine of God to the doctrine of last things. Overall his theology is Arminian in nature and from a Restorationist viewpoint (Christian Church). His chapters on original sin are well worth reading.

For many years Grudem and Packer have been my main "go to" guys for theology. I am glad to add Cottrell to that list. Most of my theological studies have been in the reformed arena (not where Cottrell is at all) so I didn't know what to expect. I was impressed by Cottrell's clarity and it was obvious that he had thought deeply and biblically about each theological topic, even if I didn't always agree with some of his conclusions.

Have you ever wanted to obtain a better handle on theology? Here, in one single volume you can do just that. Dr. Cottrell, of whom I have the privilege of seeing on a daily basis in seminary, has written a master piece. This is a wonderful source for the new pastor, new student in seminary, or the layman. Dr. Cottrell writes in such a way so that even the uneducated have the ability to grasp the true meanings.

DR. Cottrell is one of my favorite authors, The Faith Once For All is a must have for a Bible Student, Professors, and new Christians. He's not afraid to touch on the sticky or Hot topics that float around in Christianity and when he does tackle one he gives a wealth of scriptures to back up his beliefs. I enjoy especially what he has to say about the the propitiation, it is amazing to see the true nature of God and what he's willing to do for man. I recommend this book to anyone!

Besides its biblical accuracy, the strength of this book lies in its succinct and highly readable presentation. I went through this book in one year as part of a weekly men's reading group. The chapters on original sin and predestination are nice summaries from an Arminian perspective. I also greatly benefited from the chapters on interpreting biblical prophecy and views of the end times. Cottrell takes an amillenial perspective, while providing a lucid summary and critique of other views. This book is an indispensable treasure that I refer to often.

If you want a more in-depth treatment of Free Will and Calvinism, Cottrell has an excellent three-part work titled "What the Bible Says About God the"... (1) Creator (2) Ruler (3) Redeemer. The second work in particular addresses religious determinism (including Calvinism) in detail. Cottrell also has a magnificent commentary on Romans that is written from an Arminian perspective (something rather difficult to find these days).
